During the night I had some shin splints and minor little pains, but this morning am very weak with some tightness in the head but not too bad. Weakness is the problem today. I can have some tea with milk, toast and butter as long as I only have it once every four days, so today is the day I have my toast. According to the nurse at the doctor's office yesterday, we can have different breads, every day, as long as it isn't the same bread. We can eat anything we aren't allergic to. Beware the 1 good 3 bad type sleep patterns - remember, sleep warm as you can stand it, drinks LOTS of water, and if you encounter indigestion, gas, etc., consider aloe vera gel caps. Also... And the Doc says you can eat (dairy) milk and (dairy) butter, and you can drink(stimulant) tea too? That's incredulous! I remember going to the health food store and finding 4-5 different grains -- all non-wheat, corn, soy or derivatives. It was quite challenging as wheat masquerades under many names. I ended up making amaranth flat breads, using quinoa, etc. This is completely opposite of any elimination / rotation / challenge diet I have ever heard of. It would appear to virtually eliminate the rotation in 'rotation' diet, and the elimination in 'elimination' diet, and the challenge in 'challenge' diet. The ingestion of multiple forms of the same ingredient multiple times during the rotation stops the diet from being a rotating diet at all. Including so many things which effect a significant percentage of rheumatics such as dairy / wheat / teas (not herbal teas) is quite confusing as many of these things are well-documented as causing flares in a vast number of rheumatics. I'm afraid you've (well, your Doctor & nurse, actually) have completely lost me. I don't understand this at all. The only thing I've seen allowed w/out restriction on such diets has been water. It is a challenge. I think we will have to eliminate the bread altogether or make the flat bread too. Now that would be a challenge. It is difficult when there was no set rule except change food every four days and stay away from anything you were allergic to. Then a friend told us we could eat the same meat two days in a row as this diet doesn't include meat. It doesn't sound right to me. How long did you stay on the rotation diet, Geoff and what did you find out from it? Thanks so much for the reply. Bev, Wheat is indeed in most of them, but a really important thing to remember here is YEAST. YEAST " should " be on the elimination list. And YEAST is in all commercial risen breads. You can make salt-risen breads by substituting salt as the leaven, but you need the gluten from wheat to make things work really well for risen breads. The answer - flat breads - is UNchallenging. I mean we are talking really simple here! Just grab some flour, mix in some water and kneed until you get a doughy consistency. Grab a chunk, splat it down, flatten it out and cook it on he range in a pann or through it in the oven and bake it. If wanted, use whatever oil you have on tap for that meal, but it's not necessary. Basically, that's all there is to it - whether you call it tortilla or something else. Cook it a lot and it's crispy... cook it a little and it's flexible... mess with kneeding in a little oil, etc. > anything you were allergic to. The idea behind this sort of eating discipline is not to " lose weight " it is to develop an understanding of problem foods and their effects while changing your life-style eating habits to a more healthy position. If you chose to eat meat you can... but what meat is another issue. For instance, beef, dairy & beef by-products should be on the " not for 30 days " list, pork too actually. Well, that opens up: fish (and there are at least a HUNDRED different types of that and each is only ONE, so there are 100 meat-meals at one pop;) lamb (hi Newzie!) chicken duck venison You get the idea... think outside the box. I followed it actively for a couple of years and it was instrumental in putting me into remission. Circumstances of life, i.e., bride bedridden for 7 months of our (OK - her) third pregnancy w/ 2 young children and 2-3 months after birth with a newborn; a clock that never gets more than 24 hours when I needed at least 36; building a home, etc., all conspired to give me a mental excuse to go off of it concentrating instead on trying to avoid some of the worst offending foods. Bev Geoff, Thanks for all this information. Just one thing, when you say, grab some flour, do you mean you have to buy special flour, or use white flour. Wouldn't that be made from wheat? Also when you slipped off the diet, did it affect your health. You were going having terrible stress I'm sure, which isn't good either. I am allergic to wheat and have no problems with sprouted grain breads like ezekeil. Keep it frozen, natural breads go bad in 2 days. If you're trying to eliminate things to get a feel for what is ailing you in foods, wheat is only one of the suspects in breads. The other, perhaps more insidious one is YEAST. That's (one of many reasons) why the recommendation for flat breads, because so many females AND males have yeast problems and some don't even know it. After going through the hassles of eliminating stuff, then you can test them one at a time. But if you use yeast-risen bread, you still have the yeast to cope with. After completing the elimination / rotation / challenge routine, many people find like you that they can use Ezekial bread just fine. Unfortunately for some, the yeast must be addressed before they can enjoy the benefits of such wonderful breads.
