Hi, , and welcome to the group.

I know how hard this is - and what a shock the dianosis of cancer,

even a treatable cancer like ours, is. Keep in mind, through, that

most of us will live a long life and die from something unrelated.

You've come to a perfect place for support and suggestions. One of

our most important sayings around here is YMMV (your mileage may

vary).

Many of us do gain some weight when off meds, because our metabolism

slows down. The only advice I can give you on that is to do your best

to get some exercise and try to eat right, cut back on junk food, to

help minimize it.

I can't make a guarantee the weight will come off immediately - for

some it does, and for others, it takes some effort, but it CAN be

done.

Has your doctor mentioned following a low iodine diet during the last

2 weeks before your RAI treatment? Here's some info on it - it is

something that doesn't require a doctor's approval, and it's something

we can do, in this generally uncontrollable situation, to help our

treatment. An added bonus is that it can help with keeping the weight

down, especially if you don't indulge in too much of the higher

fat/calorie items.

Here's the archive on RAI treatment: Depending on where you live, you

may or may not be isolated in the hospital for several days. In any

case, you will want to take some precautions at home for your

daughter. I don't know how old she is - the best options for you will

vary depending on how capable she is of staying away from Mom for

awhile.

Other advice: Gain as much knowledge about your situation as you can -

get copies of all your medical reports/tests/ etc, and keep them in a

file.

Read as much as you can in the archives, ask questions, and most of

all, HANG IN THERE!!!

Cheers,

Alisa
