Hi all,

I first want to say thank you to all who responded to my previous post in

regards to the speech therapist and the school and the IEP and all that. You

had some really good points. I took my opinion from previous notes sent home

every day, his lack of progress in certain areas and her note and the IEP so I

don't want you guys to think I was blowing your opinion off. I would like your

suggestions on something I want to try though.

I first have decided to do away with pictures completely. I am going to tell

them they can use them for sequencing and that's it, no communication with

pictures other than showing him there is a sequence of events. he has to sign

everything he wants even if that means hand over hand, but here is what I need

help with. I am also going to insist that they start working on lip

reading/listening. Not so much AV because he needs the visual aspect of it, but

the speech therapist obviously doesn't think sign is the way to go (I don't

really care though that is staying until he is proficient or has another means

of communication not including pictures) I think because his eye contact has

improved so much he would be a great candidate to work on this. He isn't really

taking to sign very well, and we aren't really sure why, he is trying to listen

and make lots of sounds so I figure hey lets give him the tools to try that and

if he takes off with it then great. So does anyone know of spacific therapy

types or styles that deal with lip reading? Where can I find info on who does

it and stuff like that? Thanks for your suggestions.
