Guest guest
Hi all, I am scheduled for my WBS on March 5th. I will be getting the tracer dose on March 3rd. By my calendar, I thought I should be starting the Cytomel on Monday, a full six weeks prior to the tracer dose and scan. My endo's father is very ill and I have been dealing with the office secretary, which has been nothing short of a comedy act. A lot of " me " explaining the norm to " them " . Now, they are telling me to stay on my regular synthroid until Monday, March 27th. By my calculations, that is only 5 weeks away from the scan. She told me to stop meds and start the cytomel on the 27th for two weeks, and then stop the cytomel (this brings me to February 10th). I will start the LID on February 17th (2 weeks before tracer dose). I will have my TSH checked on February 25th to see if it is over 30. My final bloodwork (preg. test, thyroglobulin, TSH etc.) is on the Friday before the scan. Sorry about all the numbers, but it has been a while. I cannot afford to make any mistakes . Thanks to anyone who can respond. Love, from CT

Guest guest
Hi , I'm in the midst of this so I can tell you what my dr. is currently doing. I went on the cytomel for 4 weeks. I was told to stop the cytomel and start the low-iodine diet three weeks before the WBS (tracer dose two days prior to that.). Twe weeks into it and I'm really sloowwwwing doowwwwnnn... I've done this several times before, though not in the last 10 years and I think this has pretty much been the routine each time. I don't remember being as vigilant with the diet. Is it more restrictive now? Or is it me? Good luck! kathy devtoth@... wrote: > Hi all, > I am scheduled for my WBS on March 5th. I will be getting the > tracer dose > on March 3rd. Guest guest
, The protocol my endo uses, which I think is pretty standard, begins 6 weeks before the scheduled scan and goes like this: Cytomel only (no Synthroid) for 4 weeks, followed by no thyroid meds of any kind for 2 weeks. During those last two weeks when you're not taking Cytomel, follow the LID. Have TSH tested several days before the scheduled scan, to be sure of getting the results back in time. Pretty straightforward; you ought to be able to explain it to your doctor's staff :-). [For some reason, thyca patients seem to spend a lot of time educating medical professionals about thyca protocols.] ellen -- mailto:ellen@... Guest guest
Hi , I've been going off my levoxyl for four weeks before a scan. I declined the cytomel and my doctor tells me to do the LID during the last week. Therefore, your protocol sounds fine to me. The critical thing for telling whether you're ready for scanning is your TSH. In my case, my TSH is typically around 100 after 4 weeks. Good luck. Betty mailto:bettyy@... Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I declined the cytomel because I didn't need it. My hypo symptoms are very mild and hardly interfere with my activities. I get cold, a little dry skin and muscle cramps towards the end.
