Guest guest
There isn't that much difference between 4:1 and 3.5:1. Both are low in carbohydrates and lacking in nutrition. It will be a big adjustment either way. You will be fine tuning the ratio, calories, etc. for some time. Bill (father of ) wrote: > We are starting the diet shortly with little dietician help. Guest guest
I would definitely go up the ratios slowly, why go higher than you have to? Some kids start at 4:1 and actually have to work their way backwards a little. Jess started without a fast, we started at 2:1 for a week or so, then 2.5:1 for a week, then 3:1. Ketones will still not that high and neuro wanted to bump her up to 3.5:1. I added flax instead and ketones rose on their own. Although over the years we have moved her up from there, she has never been higher than 3.5:1, never needed to be. But if we had started at 4:1 we never would have known. And there definitely is a difference from the kid's point of view from 4:1 to 3.5:1 , 's mom " (father of ) " wrote: > We are starting the diet shortly with little dietician help. Guest guest
Hi , My 2 cents would be to start with at least as low as a 3.5. If you polled the majority of the parents here, most would probably tell you that their kids have done better at lower ratios. Of course, it will probably be trial and error. As said, if you start high, you may always be afraid to try and see how he does on a lower ratio. Some kids make ketones much easier than others, too. Instead of starting high and working down, I almost think it would be best to start low and work up, going only as high as you need to. I hope you'll have good luck! Guest guest
we started at 4 to 1, and it was too high. We ended up dropping down the ratio over time, till we got to 1.71 where we are now, and slowly weaning to Atkins.
