Guest guest
>Thank you for your warm welcome. yes I was diagnosed with severe graves/hyper last year. By the time I was diagnosed I was in thyroid storm and my heart was in bad shape. i am only 39 and it has been a roller coaster ride for me this past year. I also had a very large goiter that was wrapped around my throat. All this in just a matter of a few months. Like I said i ended up in thyroid storm and hospitalized for awhile. I was put on heart meds (beta blockers) and of course very high dosages of PTU. Surgery of course was my only option but they couldnt do it until my heart and my hyperthyroidism was stabilzed. Anyway 5 hours of surgery and a complete thyroidectomy. The goiter wrapped around my jaw, esaphogus and trachea. So needless to say my surgery was a bit difficult. But thank God because when i was first diagnosed docs said I should have been dead because my heart was so bad and thyroid storm is not good. So now here I am in between hypo/hyper who knows right now. I have gone up and down and just have had major probs getting me stable since surgery. I am still on heart meds and levoxyl. Plus I take many different vitamins. selenium, biotin, magnesium, super B etc...but the battle of severe symptoms gets so bad for me. The fatigue, and foggy brain is one of the worse. But also the lack of sleep I just don't sleep which makes symptoms worse. So right now I am trying to deal with anxiety learning breathing exercises and yoga. Hopefully this will help me. lately i have been feeling veru discouraged and this is why i searched you guys out. it's so hard to talk to people that have no idea what your going through and right now I am just really down. I am just tired of being sick and tired you know??? Anyway i am trying to hang on, my faith helps me but these days even that is being tried. But God's grace is sufficient. Anyway that is me for now. Just looking for some support and understanding. I refuse to allow this to destroy me and I refuse to get tied up into depression etc...that is my battle right now. I guess the long term makes me feel very angry and discouraged. especially when i feel so bad I don't even want to get out of bed. Just the thought of battling this all my life. That's the hardest thing. Anyone one feel like that? anyway thank you so much for welcoming me here. be Blessed, > Hi . Guest guest
Some questions for you? Labs? Can you post the last set of labs you had and what medication you are on? Include doses and any supplements , herbs etc. With a total thyroidectomy you total thyroid replacement. Sometimes when you are so hyper it takes a while for the levels already in the blood system to drop and because of antibodies it is possible to have a suppressed TSH even with out being at proper levels. Guest guest
Hello Everyone.... I'm new to the board... 32 yrs old, and have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer... I've been reading all the messages, and finally I feel good enough to introduce myself... There is a history of Breast cancer in my family, and when I first discovered the lump, I was so afraid to even go to the doctor's... It took me, a good 2 months... I guess that was my first mistake... =0( But I have gone, and they did all their tests... And my drs are setting me up ona regular treatment, schedule, but I do have a question... The spot where they did the biopsy at... Is it always going to be as sore as it is, now... It's been over 2 weeks, since they did it, and it hurts... My grandmother & her sister, both had breast cancer, and they both have since passed away... Kinda leaves me a little scared... I have 4 children, ages 12, 11, 9 & 8.... =0(
Guest guest
Hello , Welcome. I just sent a post to another new member, you might want to read it for a bit of background on me. My sister died from breast cancer before I was even diagnosed, so I didnt ever have a chance to talk w/ her about my/our diagnoses. Try not to let this story scare you: my sister had bc in the dark ages, where they didnt believe someone so young could have it so they postponed the biopsy for years. It was sort of by accident she mentioned the lump again to a dr. when she went to a dr. for strep throat, or something. That dr., luckily, sent her for a biopsy, and it was cancer, but by that time it was 5.5 cm and spread to 21 nodes. That was also the dark ages in terms of treatment, so her story does not reflect what will happen to any of us. I am 49 now, and was diagnosed when I was 43. My sister had her lump since she was 22 yrs. old; she was diagnosed at age 32. It is scary having a family member who passed on from this disease, I think scarier for us than for others in a way, because you and I have vivid memories (I am sure) of our loved ones going through it with ultimately bad results. Hang in there. As June mentioned, maybe you could find a group. I did, so I met weekly w/ others who were going through treatment just around the same time I did. My stats: right breast lumpectomy, tumor 1.1. cm, ER+, sentinel lymph node biopsy, all 6 lymphs nodes negative for cancer. Treatment: radiation followed by chemo followed by tamoxifen (I am now taking Arimidex, a tomoxifen - sorta - twin). I started the tamoxifen treatment late, so even though I am 5 yrs. past diagnoses (I was diagnosed in May 2000), I am still on arimidex. I will have to decide soon whether to continue the arimidex after the 5 yrs. or not. I have had no signs of any cancer returning in the last 5 years, even with the state-of-the-art new technology for detection. But, knock on wood; we all know it could come back, we *hope* it wont. I am glad you felt good enough to write. Keep us posted, we are here for you. Love to us all, -- Ogut The Whole Brain Game -- It's Not What You Think But How You Think It Hello Everyone....
