Hi

Well you have just found yourself a whole group of

people to talk to about that stuff, lol. How about

helping us out by telling us a bit more about

yourself, like your weight, height and what your goals

are. That way we will know best how to advise you.

Good luck and Welcome to the best support group on the

web.

Well you have come to the right place! :-) Welcome! I'm Gena, 38 and I

have a 19 yr old daughter! At my heaviest I was 284, so far down to

207. The basics are just learn to eat right, healthy portions, lots of

water and regular exercise. I suggest going back and reading old posts

and posting often to learn more.

Take care,

Gena

Welcome, incase I hadn't said that already. I'm Gena, 38 married 20 yrs

in July. We have 2 girls, Niki 19 and Cassie 13. At my heaviest I was

284, I 'm 5'3 " . My daughter Niki is in the army is 5'6 " and weighs 150.

They do so much physical training that she is solid muscle. Once you

start exercising, be sure to take muscle gain into account. It's not

always what you see on the scale. Go by how you look and how your

clothes work. With diabetes especially, exercise is very important. So

do what you can, park farther away, take stairs instead of elevators, go

for walks, things like that. It all adds up. I have just worked on

habits and lifestyle and I do the treadmill or go for walks, try to at

least 4 days a week. Water is very important too. You should try to

drink your body weight in ounces a day. Just work up to it slowly. I

look forward to hearing how you are doing.

Gena

Welcome!!!!!

I think a good majority of our posts come through in the mornings. I get the

feeling that a lot of people post from work. I know I do the majority of my

emails in the morning as well, so I would imagine you'll have a good welcoming

tomorrow morning. =)

Greetings Newbie: Glad to have you join this group. I too have had

the same 'classic' symptoms of vagal Afib and limped along on

antiarrhythmics, beta-blockers and anticoagulants. Then I joined

this group, read most of the 'files' information and saw the lead

about beta-blockers being contraindicated for vagal Afib. The beta-

blockers, in particular, were causing me to feel so fatigued that I

could barely get off the couch.

On my own I tried to lower my dosage of beta-blockers and within a

few days I got most of my energy back. My cardiologist leaned more

toward the " rate " control idea than the " rhythm " control factor in

controlling the Afib, but his attitude was, " Whatever works for you. "

Unfortunately I had a secondary problem of 'essential tremor' mostly

in my hands and when I tried getting off of beta-blockers totally

this problem came back,(the standard treatment for essential tremor

happens to be beta-blockers). Now I am down to only 50 mg of

Atenolol/D and I can tolerate that well enough. The best

antiarrhythmic I've found so far happens to be Tambocor, 100 mg/x2.

I maintain a very stable INR,(2.5), with 5 mg 4 days a week and 7.5

mg the other 3 days.

I eventually want to try PVA as a more permanent 'fix' but so far my

present combination of drugs at least allows me a more normal life

than I had before. My only suggestion to you is that you search for

the right combinations of drugs that work for you until you find a

better alternative. Good luck.

I have just signed onto the group as well and am currently on Sotalol

120mg twice daily. I started the Sotalol just last Thursday at 80mg

twice daily before my cardioversion.

I was diagnosed roughly 5 years ago and have undergone a variety of

treatments since. I am only 45 years old and have also undergone a

career change since my a-fib.

I continue to keep active by swimming and using exercise machines

like cross trainers and bikes. I just had a pacemaker inserted six

weeks ago and a cardioversion this past Friday. Like you I am

somewhat a symtomatic and when I do notice episodes its at night

laying down.

Keep in touch

Nice to see you here:-))))) Love Chris

Hello everyone, I am new here and somewhat confused on where to go and what to do. I have been looking for some kind of thyroid support system where i can talk to people that know what i am going through. i have tried to educate myself on this disease, but I am sure I have a long way to go. Anyway my name is and I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. hopefully i can concentrate enough to figure my way around here. Be Blessed,

Hi . Welcome.

We're a support group here, on thyroid, so I hope you've found the right place!!! hehehehehe

Our aim here is to help folks to learn more about the thyroid, meds and such, and how their thyroid function is affecting their health and what kinds of things you can do to make things better.

We share our research and our stories and our shoulders... and even some tears.

There are noooo silly questions... well, some... like no matter how many ask I'll never post a pic of myself... Oh.. thyroid, we're here about thyroid.... hehehehehehee

Sometimes we're silly, sometimes we're sad, sometimes passionate about a topic, sometimes clueless... but most of the time we're pretty curious and eager to learn and to share.

So if you're looking for folks that understand what it's like... that's us.

If you're looking for a place to ask questions and get some decent answers in a language that makes sense... that's us...

If you're having a crummy day and feel rotten and just need to let it all out without being judged.... well that's us too.

We'll talk about just about anything... from bad trips to the bathroom, to lost suppers, to chilly feets, to falling hair, to lost libidos.... The only firm rules is no ads, no bad language and no starting fights...

That all said... jump on in and tell us what's up... .Have you been diagnosed with a thyroid problem or dealing with symptoms that you suspect are thyroid related? Are you on meds? Any questions that are rattling around in your head that you need to lay down someplace? We'll take a crack at 'em....

>Thank you for your warm welcome. yes I was diagnosed with

severe graves/hyper last year. By the time I was diagnosed I was in

thyroid storm and my heart was in bad shape. i am only 39 and it

has been a roller coaster ride for me this past year. I also had a

very large goiter that was wrapped around my throat. All this in

just a matter of a few months. Like I said i ended up in thyroid

storm and hospitalized for awhile. I was put on heart meds (beta

blockers) and of course very high dosages of PTU. Surgery of course

was my only option but they couldnt do it until my heart and my

hyperthyroidism was stabilzed. Anyway 5 hours of surgery and a

complete thyroidectomy. The goiter wrapped around my jaw, esaphogus

and trachea. So needless to say my surgery was a bit difficult.

But thank God because when i was first diagnosed docs said I should

have been dead because my heart was so bad and thyroid storm is not

good.

So now here I am in between hypo/hyper who knows right now. I

have gone up and down and just have had major probs getting me

stable since surgery. I am still on heart meds and levoxyl. Plus I

take many different vitamins. selenium, biotin, magnesium, super B

etc...but the battle of severe symptoms gets so bad for me. The

fatigue, and foggy brain is one of the worse. But also the lack of

sleep I just don't sleep which makes symptoms worse. So right now I

am trying to deal with anxiety learning breathing exercises and

yoga. Hopefully this will help me. lately i have been feeling veru

discouraged and this is why i searched you guys out. it's so hard

to talk to people that have no idea what your going through and

right now I am just really down. I am just tired of being sick and

tired you know??? Anyway i am trying to hang on, my faith helps me

but these days even that is being tried. But God's grace is

sufficient. Anyway that is me for now. Just looking for some

support and understanding. I refuse to allow this to destroy me and

I refuse to get tied up into depression etc...that is my battle

right now. I guess the long term makes me feel very angry and

discouraged. especially when i feel so bad I don't even want to get

out of bed. Just the thought of battling this all my life. That's

the hardest thing. Anyone one feel like that? anyway thank you so

much for welcoming me here. be Blessed,
