She may just take longer to get her weight on after a lengthy hospital stay; also, these kids typically won't follow the " normal " growth curves, the important thing for them is that they follow their own curve, even if it is below the norms. How old is she now? She may just take longer to get her weight on after a lengthy hospital stay; also, these kids typically won't follow the " normal " growth curves, the important thing for them is that they follow their own curve, even if it is below the norms. Some do not. But nearly all are smaller in stature than their peers. We don't know why we can feed our kids maximum calories and still not see appropriate weight gain. The " take home " message from the 2003 conference was that all kids need to be followed by an endocrinologist from infancy. This is to monitor growth and be proactive at puberty time. I don't think Cherise's lack of growth is something to cause panic, but it does need to be watched and does indicate the need for an endocrinologist to be added to her medical team. Guest guest Posted March 25, 2006 Report Share Posted March 25, 2006 Bonni, The growth for CHARGE kids will be affecting by the hospitalizations, the extra effort needed to breath (for some) and the possible growth hormone deficiencies. Most kids with CHARGE are at the 3rd percentile for height and weight--and they struggle to gain weight even wtih feeding tubes.
