What about those with normal swallowing problem, but still having trouble

gaining weight, like me? Remember, whenever I eat a lot, I rarely or don't gain

weight? Unless it's the same kiind of foods everyday ya know. What do you call

those defiencies/problems? I do noticed that my friend , use the gtube and

he have gained weight, dang man! Now, he's around 100-110, phew! He beat me by

20-25 lbs, lol! Even Heidi beat me too, lol!

How can I get my nephew, age 10, who doesn't want to use his G-tube at

night for extra nutrition. He is a very picky eater, because he has so

few teeth (from the CHARGE) and dosn't have any adult teeth. He is so

tiny, and wants to sit in the front seat of my car, and I keep telling

him he has to eat more so he can gain weight and sit in the front. His

3-year old brother almost weighs as much as him. His other two younger

brothers (8 & 7) also are much bigger than he is. We are thinking of

growth hormone when he hits 11 or 12.

Chip-

I don't think we know why some of you guys don't gain weight. Aubrie is

like you -- she eats well, has a good appetite, no swallowing problems now,

no significant heart problems now -- there's nothing to explain her small

size. She is starting to gain weight better lately, but at age 8 and 2nd

grade she's less than 50 lb and appears more like a kindergartener.

Hi Ann,

Please know that growth hormone plays a larger part in a child's life than

just height. Growth hormone also plays a role in a child's energy level,

muscle development and sexual development. Additionally, you mentioned your

nephew doesn't have adult teeth - this could also be a result of growth

hormone deficiency. There is an article on the Magic Foundation website

(all about growth hormone deficiency and treatment) at

http://www.magicfoundation.org/www/docs/108.24/growth_hormone_deficiency_chi

ldren_dental.html

Our son with CHARGE was diagnosed Growth hormone Deficient when he was two

years old and began receiving growth hormone injections at that time. It

would be VERY important for your nephew to see an Endocrinologist soon to

determine if he is growth hormone deficient and if so, begin treatment.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Sally (Mom to Andy, 24)

P.S. Andy is 5'7 " and weighs 149#
