Guest guest
Hi I cheated and read your email (UK) - sorry but you ensured everybody read it by suggesting they skip it (if you know what I mean ). I'm glad I did because one of Mr Treacy's & Mr McMinn's colleagues at the Birmingham Royal Orthopaedic Hospital is a Mr Chana who has recently been mentioned on these pages as a good surgeon for BHR. He happens to practice also from the BMI The Priory Hospital at Birmingham which is mentioned in the BCBS list. Does this mean they would pay if he operated? For anyone trying to find a UK Orthopaedic Surgeon the following site gives an amazingly comprehensive list (NOT JUST RESURFACING) http://www.specialistinfo.com/data/__C3ORTP.html You can check out in which hospitals they practise. Rog Blue Cross & Blue Shield coverage Overseas (from the US) Dear surfacehippies: Those in the UK, OZ and NZ (and elsewhere), please skip this . The link below is a site which provides information about BCBS coverage overseas. I suspect that this is not expected to be available for elective procedures. It seems likely that the individual plan, and they are all different, would still have to approve coverage for resurfacing. However, at least this shows that they know that there is medical care elsewhere. I looked and McMinn & Treacy's hospital as well as De Smet's are not listed. The site states that the hospitals listed are only examples for each country. http://www.bcbs.com/healthtravel/worldwide.html I hope this helps someone. in NC

Guest guest
Hi , Following my recent reply to this email I had reason to call the BMI Priory Hospital at Birmingham to speak to a patient who has posted on this site. The BMI Priory Hospital should not be confused with the Woodbourne Priory Hospital (both are inthe Edgbaston district of Birmingham) which deals with acute psychiatric cases. The Blue Cross & Blue Shield coverage overseas lists the BMI hospital. The interesting bit is the patient had a hip resurface by none other than Ronan Treacy. This patient was given the choice of 3 hospitals in Birmingham by Mr Treacy. I wont name him as it wouldn't be right without his permission. Guest guest
Sorry Des, I hope I haven't mislead you as the patient I was speaking to was non American. My message was however regarding that sent by in NC relating to http://www.bcbs.com/healthtravel/worldwide.html stated that non of the hospitals in this were those of Mr Treacy, Mr McMinn or Mr De Smet. I was Just pointing out one of those listed had Ronan Treacy as a surgeon. I don't know if it's the same in the US but because we are so densely populated here, one OS can work in different hospitals. Again, sorry if I'm raising false hopes Re: Blue Cross & Blue Shield coverage Overseas (from the US) In a message dated 2/7/2003 11:06:02 AM Pacific Standard Time, roger@... writes: > Hi , > Following my recent reply to this email I had reason to call the BMI Priory > Hospital at Birmingham to speak to a patient who has posted on this site. > The BMI Priory Hospital should not be confused with the Woodbourne Priory > Hospital (both are inthe Edgbaston district of Birmingham) which deals > with acute psychiatric cases. > The Blue Cross & Blue Shield coverage overseas lists the BMI hospital. > The interesting bit is the patient had a hip resurface by none other than > Ronan Treacy. Guest guest
, Thanks for the update. It is good to know that Mr. Treacy operates at that hospital. It will be interesting to find out if someone in the US gets their BCBS plan to cover it. Thanks, in NC > Hi , > Following my recent reply to this email I had reason to call the BMI Priory Hospital at Birmingham to speak to a patient who has posted on this site.
