Guest guest
Ro se, I don't know of any legal brands of store-bought carrot juice. It is super easy to make though. I bought an inexpensive juicer from Wal-Mart. I just buy the baby carrots (saves the time of peeling) and push them through my juicer. Guest guest
Jody, why can't I put the baby carrots in my food processor? I suppose it would be chunkier but if I run for a while wouldn't that work too? " Jody G. " wrote: Ro se, I don't know of any legal brands of store-bought carrot juice. I will not have the consistency or texture of carrot juice. A juicer extracts the fiberous parts and leaves just the juice. Juice from a juicer comes out like store-bought juice in texture. Guest guest
I have used the Wal-Mart inexpensive ones too. Right now, I have an Omega Juicer, model #1000, and it does a MUCH better job. It also has like a ten year warranty. You'll pay around two hundred big ones for it, but to me, it was worth it at the time because carrot and celery juice were the main portion of my diet for a couple of years when I was really sick and hadn't been diagnosed yet. And you can get so much more juice from it than the cheaper versions. Your choice of which juicer to buy might depend on how much you will use it. If I only used it once every two weeks or so, I would have opted for the cheaper brands. I guess it's like everything else you buy - you get what you pay for. 8o) You can get it over the net, or some health food stores have them also. Hope that was helpful. 32, Celiac, GF since 7-04, insulin resistant/ovarian cysts, gastroparesis, heart patient since '82. In the gathering info/experimenting with recipes stage of the diet. Guest guest
, You are right. You do get what you pay for, but my boys really love fruits and veggies so I don't juice things often. (Lazy, I suppose.) But the cheap one I have does work when I need it- like for the bright orange jello that I made for Halloween and Thanksgiving. Carrot juice does wonders for making things a really pretty color of orange. Mine only holds about a cup of juice at a time, but it does work for what I need. So, your post was a really good one to point out that if someone plans to do a lot of juicing that a nice machine would be the way to go. If you plan to use one just occasionally an inexpensive one will do the trick. Jody mom to -6 and -8 SCD 23 months

Guest guest
I have the Cook's Essentials 1/2 Horsepower Juice Extractor with Pulp Ejection from QVC and love it. People make fun of me when I tell them I buy from QVC but I have found that if it has the " Cooks Essentials " name on it you can count on the quality. It's a bit pricey but it makes extracting juice from just about anything a breeze. http://www.qvc.com/asp/frameset.asp?class=1125 & tmp=hp & cont=mhcd Hugzzz, sheri starting SCD 1-7-05 > , > > > You are right. Guest guest
Jody, I was hoping that last email didn't sound snooty. 8o) I really was just trying to help. But you're right....if you don't juice often, there's no reason to buy something so pricey. I was juicing twice a day, then went to once a day when I felt better. The blade gets worn down, and I have to replace it every so often. But everything else stays in tip-top shape! How does that jello taste with carrot juice in it? Never thought of doing that before. 32, Celiac, GF since 7-04, insulin resistant/ovarian cysts, gastroparesis, heart patient since '82. Guest guest
" How does that jello taste with carrot juice in it? Never thought of doing that before. " Well it wouldn't have come to mind to use for me either except that my boys REALLY wanted orange jello for Halloween. Orange juice doesn't make the jello very orange, more of a yellow-orange color. So, I decided to try the carrot juice. I used 3/4 pineapple juice and 1/4 carrot juice. It actually tasted mostly like pineapple jello, but it was this fantastic orange color. And it wasn't quite transparent. It was really cool looking. Now, to make red or green jello for Christmas... when there seems to be a pineapple juice shortage where I live... either that or everyone loves it so much it flies off the grocery shelves. I think that 1/8 spinach juice plus 7/8 pineapple juice would yield green jello. But the question is how would it taste...LOL. If I manage to find some pineapple juice, I'll let everyone know if it's good. Red would be easier using cherry, pomegranate or cranberry juice.
