It would be hard to make a list.... so many countries, and even states within this one... different eating styles and food sources and personal tastes....

The basic rule is to balance protein, carbs and fats... and to eat the amount of food in a day that provides adequate nutrition and calories, with the calories being a bit less than maintenance level for your goal weight if you are working on weight loss.

If you eat goitrogens, eat them consistently and regularly and then you will be able to use the correct amount of replacement hormone to make up for the goitrogens. The exceptions there are non fermented soy products, they should be limited just because of the increase of cancer for yourself and offspring.... and high fructose corn syrup which messes with the conversion process. Even with taking natural thyroid our bodies still turn most of the T4 into T3, assuming your conversion process works right.... and the HFCS messes with that conversion rate, leaving you short on the active hormones, T3 (the most active of the thyroid hormones, used for a majority of body processes), T2 (linked to metabolism) and T1 (linked to brain function).

Raw vegies, goitrogenous ones, carry more of the chemical that messes with thyroid, so cooking them reduces the strength of that chemical. These vegies have a LOT of good nutrition and are worth working into your diet... you just need to be aware that why your thyroid gland isn't working the way it should anymore, be it low function or hyper function, you need to know what these chemicals are, what they do and how to regulate them in your diet.

When I was getting more and more hyper and then into storm I developed an insane craving for broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage.... I'd never been a vegie eating... a meat and potatoes eater from a wee kid... then suddenly... give me vegies!!! I would go to Country Buffet, an all you can eat buffet restaurant... and one of my first heaps of food was coleslaw. What's in commercial coleslaw? Cabbage and HFCS. My body new what it needed to stay alive.. things that slowed the thyroid stuff.... I would also heap on spinach... high in iron, binding with the hormones. Toasted soy nuts.... all the time... Now, I've tasted them just to see if they still tasted good.... oh no... YUCK.. but back then I'd eat the soy nuts, unsalted, before I'd eat chocolate...

We can run with this topic.. foods, good, bad and how much.... Oh... Clint Eastwood spaghetti western, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly!!! hehehehehe

It's got to be customized... so lets pick at it... anybody who wants to jump in, lets see what we can figure out....

We have a few Carols here... and 's and all kinds of other 'duplicates' that's why I sign the way that I do... so there isn't a mix up AND cuz using Topper alone a lot of folks didn't know I was a female... so I personalized it more.

MMMM I like cheese but it doesn't like me back I get migraines from cheese I still eat it of course just take my tylenol before I eat it. Tina wrote: Yay, cheese is good! Yeah, I'm another cheeseaholic. I just love the

stuff. The thing I wanted to comment on though was

the grapes. I have to be in the mood for grapes, but

have you ever tried them frozen? I froze some of the

green seedless grapes this summer and they were

fantastic!!! Very refreshing too. :o)

That's so great that you have a son who loves to cook! Must be a God-send to someone who is unable to be up cooking, huh? *grin* My husband likes to cook, and so do I, so that helps me a lot when I don't feel good and he just takes over the cooking. Now, if I could just train the dishes to wash themselves...

our fridge just about freeze's them but yes I have had them frozen. I don't care for the green grapes. I like the big purple seedless one's.

Nothing more refreshing than cold fruit when out in our pool.

Now my oldest son is a cheese lover. At 8 years old he started cooking mac a roni and cheese because his Dad and I were both laid up. From there he is the best Chef. Took culinary 9th through 12th.

He can cook anything and never uses recipes. He makes chicken taste like steak. Ofcourse his secret is his own.I get kicked out of the kitchen if i try to cook dinner. it is hard for me to stand longer than 15 minutes but I love to cook and use to do my own catering.

He does the shopping a lot and he brings home so much cheese. We are big on turkey burgers but he cooks and serves it like art. We are blessed but when he leaves I can cook again except our 12 yr old likes to cook now too. hoohum Carol in fla

When my mom was going through this, she made a new rule: if you dirty it up, you wash it, dry it, and put it back where it goes. Let's just say, after that rule was instated (and we all thought it was more than fair, and actually, did her dishes and cleaned the house and did laundry for her, we were teenagers, what can I say, strange creatures LOL) but after that, I got used to it, and absolutely hated doing dishes when we had company over! It was terrible when I got married, because even through college with roommates, I mentioned that rule and everyone liked it so that's how it was, it was a shock when I had to not only cook, but clean up and put everything away! I felt like it was so unfair to watch my new hubby sitting on the couch watching TV when I wanted to sit there with him, but I had to wash the dishes. LOL! No, looking back on it, I realize I was spoiled, but there are times even now, when I wish I didn't have the sole responsibility for that. Guess it just comes with the territory of it, and I can't even insist that he do those things because I don't work at all and I feel like the least I can do is take care of the household stuff (which really, I don't mind and prefer to do now that I'm set in my own routines and methods of doing it). I sure do miss the dishwasher though, we had one for about a year in the last place we lived and it was pure luxury (won't go into details but that was about the only luxurious thing about living there). I realize I could get a floor model one and hook it up to the sink, and there are times when I've been very tempted to do it, but we really don't have room for that in this house as it is. Oh well, I just learned how to use less dishes and wash them as I cook so I have less to do all at once, and it works better that way, and it's less stressful than seeing a whole bunch of dishes to do (somehow just seeing dishes in the sink makes me tired even thinking about it some days) LOL!

Have a great day everyone! (stewlis)ville, NC, USA
