Guest guest
All concerned---- I have to apologize to the many people I have helped over the last year to get resurfacing. I have steered you all toward an inferior product. My thanks must go to " Hippatient " who is kind enough to inform us that the 's Conserve Plus won't last. You had better all just forget the active lives you had planned. A 24 year old has come along much too late to save me from something that " IS NOT A BHR EQUIVELANT " I sure wish you could have talked me out of it before I went and made such a rash move. I know we all had so much to look forward to as active people. Now, we had better just set back in our rocking chairs. I had so looked forward to refereeing soccer (football) again and running but now I find that if " you like to participate in the following(activities enjoyed by BHR recipients): Running Fishing Cycling Hunting Chi Kung Power walking Yoga Horse riding Hill walking Basket ball Motorcycling Tennis Dry skiing Rock climbing Gym Skiing Archery Mountain biking Paragliding Real tennis Circuit training Fencing Skittles Squash Weight training Clay pigeon shooting Golf Flat green bowling Motor racing Rugby Table tennis Rowing Water Skiing Greek dancing Walking Circle dancing Surfing Hockey Football Tread mill Jogging Snooker Badminton Jiving Aerobics Cricket Fell walking Swimming " (does this sound like an old Tampax commercial?) I guess I'd better stick to checkers so my hip will last fifty years. You know so much about the BHR, so answer me what no one else will: Who is the soccer player who played in the World Cup 98 with one? You are now an expert, but on Jan 20 of this year, you wrote, " I didn't fully understand the procedure and the differences between THR and Resurfacing until i watched the animations on this page " How is it that in a week you are the expert, the definitive testimony on resurfacing. It is nice that you are " explaining the truth. " " I knew nothing about this procedure until 2 weeks ago " you said in your last post.. Well, when you have been on the board as long as some of us, you may recognize " hype " I'm from the country and I know what horseshit smells like...I'm sure the studies were all from independent agencies and McMinn does want to be fair with his competitors. I do understand that these longest lived devices, the ones that he first put in that are still in use. Corin not McMinn made these. If you want the 'longevity' better get a Corin, they are the ones that have been out there the longest. WRONG! Fully FDA approved TARA from Biopro has been on the market since the seventies (now that's longevity). Sure, some (60% at 5-6 years) have had a problem with Osteolysis but many are still going strong 30 years later and with today's Polyethylene and a ceramic head, Osteolysis is nearly a non issue. I decided after months of study on the surgeon, and still didn't know whether the device my surgeon was using was " the best. " You took less than two weeks to decide. I remember being impetuous as a youth. Sometimes I still am but I don't always make up my mind and then find evidence to support my decision. We have a President right now trying to get a war going with reasoning like that. If you are enamored with the idea of going to Europe, go. If you have insurance, you risk not being reimbursed for your procedure. Things can be lonely in Europe when you are laid open like a roast on the table and put back together, vulnerable and far from home. But at least you aren't getting one of those second rate devices that they sell in the States. Guest guest
Capt Amazo------I have no tendancies toward being that-a-way----------but I think I may love you. I have never related to, or understood the " I can make myself feel better about my decision, if I can make other people feel inadequate about theirs " , mentality. I wish I had the ability to express this feeling as eloquelently as you just did. Thank you sir Shef
Guest guest
Captain, You're the best!!! When I logged on tonight and saw the caps and the post that went with it I about threw up. This is at least the third time in a year all this has been hashed and rehashed. Do you remember when Corin reps actually came on to dispel the horror stories that were being thrown out there by BHR fanatics? They backed everything up that they said with unbiased studies not " hype " that sits in abundance on the McMinn site. Now I'm not saying there is anything wrong with a BHR, absolutely not! But you must distinguish the BS from the facts. I don't even know the name of the person who posted the original caps but my advice to him and to all who are at all worried is to do a search of this site. Read everything that has ever been written on this " controversy " . Then come back with what you have learned to be FACTS not hype. Yes, Cap you are amazing... Guest guest
In all fairness, I think this person only meant well and for that, I think we should cut him some slack. He felt he had made some important discoveries he wanted to share with others who were struggling to decide which way to go. I think he was quite brave to say what he had to say because he must have known it would stir up all kinds of negative reactions. The information he presented may have been one-sided, but it's up to each individual to research ALL the information available to make an intelligent, informed decision. I see nothing wrong with challenging his information and his sources, but I don't think it's right to put him down. I guess for the health of this board, I don't want to discourage anyone from posting his or her opinion for fear of being judged. Maybe this person did mean well and as I posted whoever he/she is they need to go back and do some additional research. I for one get very irritated as I said when I see this argument come up over and over. McMinn is an excellent salesman. On the other side of the coin; there are people here facing surgeries in the next few days or weeks with either the C+ or the Cormet. They need to be considered also. The last time this came up their were " soon to be " patients living in dread that they had made the wrong decision. I wouldn't want to go into surgery with this feeling. I will not stop posting the need to get facts just to save some person's feelings. I will not agree to a wrong just because someone's feelings may be hurt. In Captain's defense you need to learn his sense of humor. As he will attest we two used to get into it from time to time.... Trudy
Guest guest
Donna Thanks for eloquently summarising my views exactly. Such direct contribution turned out to be more informative for someone like me who's still trying to learn as much as possible about this new protocol/procedure than a lot of amusing and emotional accounts about insurance claims, significant and important as they are. Opinionated views can often be perfect catalysts for stimulating and informed debate. I am in no position to 'take sides' as I know next to nothing about the options and their relative values - I feel though that I have learned a bit through this discussion. Keep it up. Captain-- there's a lot of intuitive appeal to MMT's postion on the Porocast Cup. But since I'm lacking a PHD in metallurgical engineering, that's about all I'm prepared to venture on the subject. You, on the other hand, were going on the other day about tarring your Birkbeiners (I wore through my last set of lignostone edges about 1977), which in the words of an old friend of mine speaks to " an irrational attachment to outmoded technology " . While in the words of that same old friend (referring to mountaineering equipment) " the best is just good enough " I expect that the equipment differences will amount to the difference between top of the line Campangnolo and Dura-ace (I'm on Campy), while surgical skill will prove to be critical; the failures I've read about all seem to relate to bone quality, placement or treatment of the femoral neck during surgery. Having said that I'd really like to go for a beer with anyone who can work hip surgery and president Bush's take on Iraq into one short paragraph, so if you're in the neighbourhood..... All the best--Griz You had better > all just forget the active lives you had planned. Guest guest
This is complete horse crap! The twenty something year old provoked all of you, not to make anyone feel inadequate but rather to gain information. The pro of this website is that it is a wonderful source of information, the downside is that there are many surfers who take it all as gospel instead of the catalyst for open discussion that it is. You see, there it is again.... I hesitated in using the word surfer..maybe I should have said pre-surfer just to keep all the " real " surfers happy. > Capt Amazo------I have no tendancies toward being that-a-way-------- --but I > think I may love you. I have never related to, or understood the " I can make > myself feel better about my decision, if I can make other people feel > inadequate about theirs " , mentality.
