anthrax/airplanes/antibotics

Hi all;

Just an up close and personal view of all this crazy stuff happening in the USA. I recently returned home (Iowa) from a trip(Las Vegas) on Monday (Oct 15, 2001). Airport security is tighter for passengers but what concerns me is all the shops, restaurants, bars, ect that are already in the secure area. Don't the kitchens have knives and other sharp items...don't the bars have corkscrews, don't the shops have box cutters???? I myself could not take a small nail clippers but looking around at all the shops there were thousands of 'weapons' I could have purchased and walked with right on the airplane.

On a lay over in Salt Lake City, Utah I had an anthrax scare (I'm still waiting for test results but will assume it is a hoax so I don't worry myself sick) In the restroom at the airport as I pulled on the toliet paper roll a cloud of white powder flew into the air (also in my hair, sweater, and hands). My first thoughts were 'where did this baby powder come from?' and I instinctively smelled the powder. it was not baby powder. I immediately summoned an airline employee and the whole area was sealed off and became a crime scene (needless to say I missed my flight) The FBI was there, the fire department, lots of police, hazemat trucks and the guys in the moon suits. I was asked lots of questions, given a shirt to change into and told to to wash my hands Hours later I was on another flight to Denver, then to my final destination Omaha, NE. I was told to expect a call in the morning (Tuesday 10/16/01) on the test results of the powder. I called THEM last evening...the labs are swamped...I should to expect a call today. It's 1 pm... I'm still waiting.

This is one time I'm glad to be taking an antibotic...just in case. take care
