Guest guest
-prob a little gross for some- started having reflux/vomiting after each meal!!! We suspected cream intolerance Suspended cream No result We suspected egg intolerance Suspended egg No result We suspected liquids bothering Separated liquids from meals No result Keto team suggested aluminiun hydroxide/magnesia before eating each meal Made a little research, tried that No result We are quite desperate... My 3 year old - little guy is feeling miserable... In your experience, what did you do? How did you solve it? Any feedback? Thanks a lot! Guest guest
Gilda, I am wondering about the ratio. Is it too high for to tolerate? How are his ketones? You may want to consider lowering the ratio. How long has been on the diet? Digestive enzymes might be helpful to . Do to the high fat content may be having troubles digesting the food, hence he has a lot of gas. Digestive enzymes can do wonders. These can be bought at a health food store. Patti wrote a recent post on how to give them. Let us know if you are interested. My daughter was not as extreme as 's present situation, but she was headed in that direction. Two years ago this group suggested the digestive enzymes. We tried them and had immediate improvement. Rhonda -prob a little gross for some- started having reflux/vomiting after each meal!!! Guest guest
Gilda, My vote would be for reflux. There is a sphincter between the esophagus (food tube) and stomache called the lower esophageal sphincter (called LES) that is supposed to close after you eat so the food and acid in your stomache doesn't come back up after you eat. It's a common medical fact that fat (as well as caffeine, smoking, spicy/citrus foods) keep the LES from closing properly, causing heartburn in adults and spitting up in kids. Since the ketogenic diet derives >90% calories from fat, it makes sense that it would lead to reflux. Zantac is a common medicine for reflux. It comes in a liquid, which probably has sugar, but a compounding pharmacist should be able to make it from the adult tablet in a liquid form. There are other stronger meds if the Zantac doesn't work. I'd rec you ask you PCP if you can try it. Guest guest
Start small.....w/ like one quarter of a capsule. Enzymes aren't based on body weight, they're dosed according to food volume. But you need to start with a small amount and work up. The Zantac will probably work counter to the enzymes. I would toss it completely, if possible. Unless you think it's working? Certainly don't give it at the same exact time. You always give enzymes just before the meal. Patti Re: Oh Please help... don't know what to do I did search back on the posts, and from what I gather, and some extra info I got from the Doose board. I learned quite a bit. The only big question I have is the dosage.. How much can I give him? The main enzyme pancreatin, and its " children " lipase, proteinase, and the other one I don't remember. But what I don't know is the dosage for a 3 year old, 17 kilos... How many mgs can I give him of pancreatin? And, can I give the enzymes together with the Zantac? Thanks for all your replies...!!! Patti, I hope you feel better soon... Thanks Gilda " The Ketogenic Diet....a realistic treatment option, NOT just a last resort! " List is for parent to parent support only.
