I was told to wait at least 12 weeks to be sure the joint capsule was fully healed. I tried then, and it was already pretty easy to do, so I guess the answer is that you are ready when you can do it? ;-). Everything on my left side is still more difficult to do than the right, but things are do-able. If you can't reach, then stretch a bit each day, and eventually you will get there. Guest guest
The way I keep abduction/adduction straight is to remember that to " abduct " something is to " take it away " . So your " scissoring " is both - abduction when your feet go apart; and adduction is when they come together. After my hip resurf, the abduction was a tough exercise for a while! My surgery was in May, so I got to slop around in sandals all summer..... but I think I could tie my shoes when I could lift my foot and lay it on my opposite knee? Probably around 6 weeks? The leg is abducted when you do this, so you really don't break " precautions " . Of course, loafers are always nice Best wishes! Deb > Could someone please explain abduction/adduction to me?
