Guest guest
Hi Chantelle, I checked the dosage on RxList.com. For an adult for an ear infection, the dosage is 500 mg twice per day for a mild-moderate infection and 500 mg three times per day for a severe infection. Also, if the dose will be bumped up to the higher end of the range for larger people (I have no idea where you are at size-wise). Considering you said this is for " a really bad ear infection that isn't going away, " then I would say you have the right dosage. Having an allergy to something doesn't factor in to the dose. You are either allergic to something or you aren't. If you are allergic, they will just give you an alternate med. You have to take a certain amount of an antibiotic in order to have a high enough concentration in your body to kill all the bacteria. Otherwise, you just kill off the weakest bacteria and allow the ones resistant to the antibiotic to flourish. That's also why it's important to take it for the full amount of time specified. Also, when you say that you are allergic to all these antibiotics, what exactly happens? The only true drug allergic reactions are if you get hives (skin rash) or you have trouble breathing or go into anaphalactic shock. Diarrhea, vomiting, stomach upset, while unpleasant adverse reactions are not allergies. And meds that may cause GI upset will usually not cause you any problems if you take them topically (like an ear drop or an eye drop). Hope this helps and you are feeling better soon. Anyone familiar with this drug. BTW im taking it for a really bad ear infection thats not been going away. The doctor at the walk in clinic (not mine ) wanted to give me ciprol but im deffinatly allergic to that one. Then he tried to convince me that ear drops would be fine (even if i was allergic to ciprol!) then he wanted to give me Garamiacin but i KNOW im allergic to the entire cyclociamines! AHAHAHAHAH lol what an afternoon. Anyways I will talk more later. Just wanted to ask about the Amoxicillin. Ah life of a charger. The doc wouldnt belive i had an ear ache cause i didnt have a fever. I NEVER have a fever with an ear ache. At least the pharmisist was nice. Chantelle (CHARGE) --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Guest guest
Chantelle, Patty never has a fever either and she doesn't show pain. The amoxicillin is fine but I hope that you are drinking cranberry juice and having tons of yougurt. That'll help too. Guest guest
Thanks everyone who responded. I think it was that asked what type of reaction i get. For Cyclociamines (erythromicin, garamicin, clindomicin) I have a full anaphalactic reaction. So far i havnt reacted to Amoxacilin. I was talking to my dad and step mom who know about my early drug allergies said they only put me on penicilin and found i reacted. The docs and mum decided to keep me away from the entire pennicilin family wich probably did me a lot of good considering im allergic to the cyclocimines and to ciprol now, the two main ear infection antibiotics after penicillin, lol. I did have penicillin retested 2 years ago and had no reaction. I havnt needed any antibiotics since so it was never really an issue. I thought id at least ask here as I think there are instances with us chargers and having had so much antibiotics that we developed allergies. Thanks again for the input Chantelle
