Hi Robin and Donna:

My name is Jane and I just joined this group. I was newly dx/w idc and ldc. Both my first and second opinion Drs. said if I choose operation first, they would do a total mastectomy because all three of the cancerous areas total more than 3cm. They both believe that I will benefit from chemo to try to shrink the areas "possibly" enabling them to take out less tissue and have breast conserving surgery at a later date. And a second benefit would be that I would probably be node positive now and node negative after chemo.

I am just thankful that it was caught early. I go for a bone and CT scan on Mon (11/14) to make sure it did not invade the bones or other organs, then on Wed (11/16) I have an appointment with an oncologist (she just happened to be on our 6:00 news tonight and was rate one of the top oncologists by her peers.......encouraging news) ........please keep me in your thoughts and prayers and know that I will do the same for you.

Re: tumor size

Hi Robin, my name is Donna, I post every now and then. I was diagnosed in March of '04 I had three tumors, the largest was 1.3 cm and that is why I had chemo. I had a mastectomy because there were 3 in different places on the left breast. My surgeon had said if the three equaled more than 1 cm they would do chemo but when I went to the oncologist he said that they use to do that but now they do chemo if one of them was over 1 cm. So I had 6 rounds of chemo. But I guess it could be different now. Talk to your Drs and see what they say. Just want to wish you good luck with everything. I am doing good, going through reconstruction for the third time, but so far so good. They say the third time is the charm!
