Re: my surgery---

Dear Friends-

I had my surgery on Monday morning, a little less than 48 hours ago. Just wanted

to give a few details to let everyone know how it went. The doctor and the rest

of the staff was nice, reassured me, held my hand etc. and going " under " with

the anesthesia was quick and easy. I woke up in a little pain but not bad. One

percaset helped, and they sent me home with Tylenol with codeine. But I only

took two of those, the first night, and now I am taking Advil. The pain is mild,

more like tenderness...my bleeding is minimal. I do not have medication or a

catheter--my RE said it was not needed in my case. My surgery was on day 9 of my

cycle.

The doctor said my uterus was indeed septate, not bicornuate (contrary to my

MRI report, which said " true bicornuate " ). This doc said the radiologist was

probably fooled because my uterus does have a dimple at the top, which may make

one think it's bicornuate. Anyway, my septum was very, very low and he was able

to " shave " away much of it using a wire (forgot what he called the wire). There

was no endometriosis or other things in the uterus to remove/treat. However, as

shown in my hsg weeks ago, my left tube was blocked and damaged, and it had to

be removed. I gave him permission to do this before the surgery. As it turns

out, the tube was twisted, stuck on itself and filled with fluids which could

have harmed my system had we left it in there. Yuck. Although it scares me a

little, I am glad he took it out. My right tube is fine, ovaries look okay, etc.

The plan now is to go back to my RE (surgeon) in two weeks for a post-op visit,

and have another 3-D ultrasound to see how it all looks. There is a SLIM chance

that it won't look as good as we hope and they'll have to go in again--he said

this happens maybe 5% of the time. But if not, we'll probably get the go ahead

to wait a cycle or two then TTC. If my right tube doesn't do the trick in a few

months, we may do drugs to bring on more ovulation---does that make sense to you

ladies as a next step?

I am eager to see this ultrasound in 2 weeks--keeping my fingers crossed. I am

glad I had this surgery, although still nervous after all that has happened. I

was well taken care of, doctor called the next day to check on me, and I feel

pretty okay-ish today. Will probably return to work tomorrow or Friday (part of

the day only).

Does anyone have advice on follow-up for me? What about the cervix situation?

Having had it dilated already for labor this July, an hsg, saline us, surgery,

etc. What choices should I be careful of in the future so as not to overdo it

with the cervix dilating procedures? Also, regarding the tubes--does anyone know

what causes tubal damage and is there anything I can do to take good care of my

one good tube at this point?
