Chantelle, your comments are fascinating. I'm so tired (still have

here waking at 4:00). Even so, I want to say a few things --- if I'm goofy,

well, so are some of you at times!

is not as " high functioning " (how I hate that phrase) as you are, but

I am convinced that she is usually fully aware of how strangers react to

her when it's negative. A non-Perkins' psych once wondered aloud what

went through 's mind during encounters and problems she faced in

general.

When she was young, we had NO guidance on CHARGE, not even

deafblindness except what I searched for endlessly. For the most part the

professionals were welcoming and helpful. Still, our locals asked if I

couldn't " make " quiet when she was gleeful - i.e., couldn't I make her

socially acceptable. Reading this list now, I doubt that I'd be faced with

such unreality if she were born now. There would be support from early

on. We had none, and I'm certain that has scars upon scars

because of how weak I was.

That said, I am dumbfounded since she's moved back to Springfield.

She hugs me many times daily and pats my back! She no longer yells

when she visits what we trust will become her own home. I KNOW she

has horrendous scars. I KNOW that I caused many of them. I sense,

however, that she and I are finally coming to terms with each other with

lots of love --- and pats on the back.

Sorry. I needed to ramble. This house fiasco is unbelievable. The state

will not open an individual house even though K's money could pay for the

whole thing. Andy and I are so used to legal battles that we're having to sit

on ourselves to just keep quiet and work oh so pleasantly with everyone...

Again, sorry, but I needed to write. Martha

Oops, I guess my post should have been sent to Chantelle individually.

Chalk the oversight up to nights with never more than 4 hours of sleep. I'm

just too darn old for this! Martha

Martha-

Doesn't it speak volumes about 's understanding of the world that she

can express to you her acceptance of all of your parental foibles? I used

to worry that I was the one there for all the bad stuff and Aubrie would

come to hate me for it. But the opposite is true. She knows that I've been

there for her through it all, that I would have spared her any of it if I

could, and that I'll always support her through the best and the worst.

It's a powerful connection to have with your child -- even greater than

" typical " parent-child relations.
