Guest guest
I've notified Sindee & Ed about this, so the offending item can be removed from the group. We shouldn't waste any more time discussing it, since it just raises the guy's profile even more. If he's like most spammers, he won't even bother reading any replies here anyway. To add some relevant content... My Dad's on Oxaliplatin+5FU+Leu for the second time round, and is getting some neuropathy again. Researching online seems to indicate a few things which may be useful, including glutathione injections just before Oxal administration, and Calcium/Magnesium supplementation. His registrar thought the glutathione would be too much of a hassle and has instead prescribed gabapentin, which apparently don't reduce the pain, but change how your brain perceives it... Has anyone had any experience with any of this? All the best, Darren Helping someone in need
Guest guest
Darren- I am receiving calcium/magnesium infusions before and after my oxaliplatin infusions. It takes an additional hour for treatments- as this is given for 30 min before and 30 min after oxaliplatin. I have recieved 22 treatments and I think it has helped slow the progression of neuropathy. I had received a prior course of 6 infusions of oxaliplatin without this and had more side effects. The theory is that it prevents some of the damage to little channels in the nerve cells that move salts in and out. I am not certain that it helps heal the damage already incurred however. I do not know if glutathione treatment will help reverse injury. I am developing some neuropathy- the sensation in my hands and feet is decreasing. Although it is not causing any problems for me yet, my oncologist is worried it may become a problem in the not too distant future. he told me whatever neuropathy I have now will probably take 3-4 mth to resolve. He wants to switch me to Avastin to give me a break to allow my nerves to recover. Kris
