we're headed back to Iowa.....

Just got off the phone with Dr. Ponseti, and it looks like we are

going back and may need 1-2 more casts. Does anyone know of any

cheap/free ways to fly back? I am in Los Angeles and will be

traveling with Becky, and my oldest that is 3 1/2. We are

going to be able to stay with relatives that live in Iowa (thank

goodness for them!) so having someplace to stay is no problem, it is

just the getting there and the costs of treatment.

I think that right now I am still in shock that we are going to be

heading back but I know that we are going to be doing the right

thing in the long run.

Any tips from anyone that have children that have regressed or older

children with casts? Becky has become so active and I worry about

her not being able to walk or do her usual activities.

Thanks everyone for reading, I better go so that I can start

searching airfares and things.

I'm sorry to hear that you're having to come to Iowa. As Amy said

earlier, it is getting cooler in Iowa each day - although it is a little

warmer here than Minnesota thankfully :)

As for getting reasonable tickets, look into www.orbitz.com. I bought

tickets from them just over a week ago when my grandfather died, and

with less than 2 days notice, I paid about $225. Also, don't limit

yourself to flying into the Cedar Rapids airport (which is about 30

minutes away). I generally get my tickets cheaper going through the

Moline (Quad Cities) airport (which is about an hour away).

If there's anything else you need to know, don't hesitate to ask.

Sorry that you need to be going back to Iowa for some recasting. I

have also been looking for flights to Iowa and checked for some

general costs from LAX.

A quick search at Expedia shows that if you do a 14 day advance

purchase and staying at least 2 days that you can get a round trip

ticket for about $270 to $290 from LAX to Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I hope that the travel arrangements and trip work out well.

found one from LAX-chicago for $146, maybe i could do that and just

drive down.... thank you all for your replies. It still hasn't

sunk in that we will be going back. So many things to do to get

ready.

My son, Dylan had to go back in casts when he was 10 months old. He had

already finished with the bar 23/7, and was down to nights only. The day

before he was recasted, he took his first steps. Dr. Herzenberg decided

to put him in fiberglass casts because he was so active, the plaster

casts would have never lasted. Dylan had one of those push toy walkers

and he could run behind it in the casts. When he came out of the casts,

however, it took him about a week before he would even stand up. I think

because he had been in the casts for a month and he had kind of come to

depend on them, KWIM? Good Luck!
