Guest guest
: Nick started when the Avastin was called vegG..was on it six months,on a double blind study, they opened it,said yes he had the real mccoy not a placebo and he was and officially is (but has not had any for over two months). He too,was taking the cpt11(camptosar) the 5FU,The LV,+ the avastin. Then they went to Oxipl.+5FU+Lv+Avastin..too too many bad side effetcs. Presently on Xeloda(two 1650 doses twice a day. The avastin worked for 8 months, then stopped. Liver mets both lobes, two small sopts on lungs, a mass near the pancreas. Today we went to dadeland MRI P.E.T. & C.A.T> to pick up the December 18th scans, brought them to Baptist film library so they could do a contrast with the E/R scan on 2/27. Seems radiologist wants to reread them. His blood cbc is ok. His CEA markers up. He lost weight and lowered his cholesterol. His B/P is 138/77 with Verpamil ,he is not really hungry,Onc. prescribed megace. He never drank many liquids and is trying hard to use yogert, perrier, etc. Water alone turns sour, never was a soda person, won't touvh tea. Does like soup, jello and pudding. So now we have really two problems. Why out of the blue after two months did they want to reread the scans, and why does the pain which was the reason he went to the E/R to begin with, not abate? he has good days but he has little energy and cannot stand for more than a couple of hours and the same hold true with sitting. he is 73,never was really athletic but always walked, took both our kids and the grandkids everywhere. So after listening and reading about many of the real problems we think we have been blessed. Thanks for answering. The avastin may make a difference in your case. hugs and thanks Nick & jane
Guest guest
Thanks for your response! It's interesting to hear how these new drugs affect others. 8 months is a pretty good response by the trial standards,I hope we can gain some time with this also.Since he's already failed at the Cpt-11/5Fu/Lv and the xeloda and can't do oxaliplatin, this is the end of the current chemo option list,so we're praying for a good response and some quality time.He has had considerably more side effects this time(nausea/loss of appetite/etc) but over-all has had more good days with this so it's encouraging!
