Guest guest
There's nothing wrong with Canola oil (or rape seed oil as it is known here in Europe). Canola for human consumption is REFINED. That means all you're left with is basically the fatty acids that constitute the oil. There are no valuable vitamins or minerals that you will find in unrefined oils such as olive oil, but if you're cooking you'd lose most of them anyway. Chemically, Rape seed / Canola oil is quite similar to olive oil, and therefore has many of the health benefits. For example, is thought that oleic acid (18:1), a monounsaturate, and the main fatty acid in both Canola and Olive oil, is beneficial in reducing cholesterol. That doesn't mean I'd rank rapeseed oil along with olive oil in terms of healthiness, but if you're frying with it, there really isn't a lot of difference.
