Guest guest
Hello all! My name is m Ayub and I am happy to be welcomed into your group. I really do need the support right now, so your title is very fitting. =) My uncle found he had colon cancer last July and had surgery for 7 hours to have the cancer and some lymph nodes removed, but refused to have chemotherapy and went on about his life till just this last month, when he visited and looked very sickly and could not walk. Turns out the cancer had spread to his liver, kidneys and all his bones. He is now in the hospital, and what once was a prognosis of two years with chemo and radiation has slowly gone down to one year and now the most is two months. I am looking everywhere for hope and trying to read everything I can on this disease (I myself have diabetes, which is manageable) in the hopes I can save my uncle or help him live as long as the longest prognosis, but since he is in San Fran right now and I am in Seattle (we are going down there early next week) I am afraid I won't get there in time to even say goodbye. Is there any hope for colon cancer patients at this stage? It's in his hip and he can't even walk, but won't get the surgery for the pin. He is very stubborn and seems to not care to take care of himself or his life (it's been his way for most of the time I have known him). I want to have some hope or maybe know of something that you all, as cancer survivors can tell me. Thank you so much for listening to me. m _________________________________________________________________ Persistent heartburn? Guest guest
Ms. Ayub, Sorry to hear about your uncle and his current situation. A lot of people say that attitude won't cure cancer, and they are probably right, if it's attitude in and of itself. At the same time, a bad attitude will not make anything better, so frankly, I think if you want to help him, you are going to have to find a way to get his spirit up. I have read that up to 50% of cancer patients and survivors suffer from clinical depression, which is due to bad chemistry and which can be very effectively treated with medication. It seems to me that this might be the case with your uncle. Maybe you or another family member can convince him to see a doctor about this and at least try the medication. Maybe it will move him to try more therapy, if such is appropriate or boost his spirits so that he more enjoy the future.
