A UK person has Lyme in Florida too and his son was positive on a WB from IgenX but his doctor refusing to treat the kid age 23. This mDad (w/LD himself) is really distressed. I know Marta can suggest options of care from LLD. I've also lost Pat 's e-mail. I'm in New Orleans, bit in Colorado; late discovery 12 years later. Thanbks for help. 15 days into Roxi and Trimthoprim and any experienced veterans comments would be appreciated. (Roxy 150 mg. 2 x a day/Trimtho 100 mg. 2 x a day). Guest guest Posted October 10, 2001 Report Share Posted October 10, 2001 Kris, If you read the Scammel book and the AP Protocol, you should know that six months is the minimum time frame to expect any significant results. It also depends on the length of time you've had arthritis and how bad your condition is. As for myself, I was taking 1500 mg of Sulfasalazine and 1500 mg of Naprosyn daily, and 10 mg of oral Methotrexate weekly when I learned about AP. I had really wanted to get off Methotrexate because of its side effects and possible long term damage to my liver, etc. When I started AP, I dropped the Methotrexate, but remained on the 1500 mg of Sulfasalazine and 1500 mg of Naprosyn because those do not interfere with AP therapy and I wanted to cover as many bases as possible rather than relying solely on AP (Minocycline). I also still let my doc give me a Cortisone shot or short term (one week) Prednisone if needed. So my treatment hasn't changed much except that I've added Minocycline to the list of drugs I take, and deleted Methotrexate from it. My attitude towards AP is that it's inexpensive and since it's pretty much completely safe to take, I have nothing to loose and perhaps much to gain if it works - but I didn't (and don't) expect any immediate miracles. If it is indeed killing off mycoplasm's, it's a slow process and I have nothing better to do meanwhile :-). My doc agrees that antibiotics have anti-inflammatory effects because it interferes with some enzyme that encourages T-cell production, but doesn't believe it works by killing off micro-bacteria. I don't care as long as she is willing to prescribe it (I would obtain it via mail order overseas pharmacies if she weren't willing to prescribe it). After being on Minocycline about a month or two, I noticed a substantial lessening of the extreme fatigue and lethargy I was feeling at the time I started it - to the point that I had cut my work hours from 40 hours per week back to 20 hours. I've also cut back on Naprosyn to only 500 mg per day in the afternoons when I go to work, but just take it as " insurance " and don't usually bother with it at all on my days off work. Although I do still have occasional days when I wake up sore and achy, the fatigue is no longer an issue. I plan on continuing the Sulfasalazine indefinitely because it (like all Sulfa based drugs) is also an antibiotic and was used for it's antibiotic properties long before conventional antibiotics were invented. I personally think that's probably why it helps with arthritis, although all doctors will tell you they simply don't know why it works. Pregnancy does have a strange way of putting you into a wonderful remission, however the arthritis never stayed away long...long enough to thoroughly enjoy both pregnancies. I believe I was truly given to very special blessings considering I was told not to have children, better yet, that I COULD NOT have children. Guess thats proof the docs do not know everything. But then I am a determined person.LOL. You sound like an awesome mom ette! and whether our children are delivered to us naturally or via adoption is not the issue. Its most important that we have been blessed with them and treasure them each and every day. Guest guest Posted May 24, 2002 Report Share Posted May 24, 2002 Donna lololol my son was 10 hours of labor no pain meds at all and he weighed 6pds 6ozs and he was easy compared to she was 2 hours of labor and tried to come out side ways head on my hip and feet on the other hip lolololol and she finally popped out at 4 POUNDS and tiny she wore doll clothes lolololol and i didnt have pain meds with her either ok 12 hours total labor for this mom and no more in the oven or on schedule for baking lolololololol the oven is closed permanently lololol shhhh i hope i never got my tubes tied and hubby didnt get snipped lololol as i told my hubby its so hard for me to get pregnant and my age i wouldnt feel right trying for it again my hands are full with and family things now lolololol enjoying my kids and family Robbin Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

See I am only 4'5" and the doctors said if I did have my own I would have to spend all the months in bed. But, he was very ready for me to try. He never said not to he only told me to try and see. However I feel very blessed with the children I have. I love and learn from them hopefully they learn from me also. Right now I am not feeling too well. My right ear is numb and I can't hear out of it. I made an appointment with the ENT but have to wait till Wed. It feels awful!! What feels awful is the fact that it's numb! I tried all sorts of ear drops. I do and I don't need hand cotrols but I do use a back pillow one of those wedge kind and I also use a round thing that you sit on and it turns when you get in or out. I try to wear shoes that have an 2 or more inches on them but right now I am wearing one inch shoes because i can't find any higher and I still drive. Guest guest Posted June 21, 2002 Report Share Posted June 21, 2002 Meredith, I try to take time for myself but there never isn't any. I work 40 hours a week. By the time I get home I just relax in front of the tv. I gave up on doing housework. I don't even cook anymore. I was trying to go to the gym and do the treadmills or bicycles but lately I just feel too bad and too tired. I have a hard time walking my dog even. I was doing horrible before my surgery. Then while I was off work I spent time doing nothing (just watching movies) and although my hand hurt everything else was ok. That was the best I felt all year. I am not as bad off as I was before my surgery but I am rapidly deteriorating. I really thought I was going to be better. In one way I am lucky I don't have kids cause I know that there is no way I could deal with this and have to take care of someone else too. I respect you for having to do it cause I know it must be hard. I am only 25 and would love to have kids one day. I know this topic has been discussed before...I worry that I won't get to have kids. If I can have them, if I can go that long without meds, how I will feel during and after pregnancy, etc. Better not to worry about the future now. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it. Right now I need to worry about getting through today. I have been sick for a while and you would think that by now I would have learned to cope better but I haven't. I am not sure I ever will. It is a hard thing to accept. At least my family is being more supportive. So, things are improving... I would like to know about the disability issue too. I know that it is more difficult to get the younger you are. Also, those on disability, what do you do for medical care, prescriptions, etc.? Whats the difference between disabilityand social security? do you have to quit working to apply? you need your doctors help don't you?
