Guest guest
: I always get the metal taste in my mouth with the IV's. Suck on a peppermint- As far as that kind of reaction- I have never felt anything but very tired. I get 300,600,600,900,900- your does does seem very high to me. I also flare in my joints. And I would think if you were dehydrated the IV would help- but someone else needs to jump in here because I am not experienced. Good Luck, Carol*
Guest guest
The medicine mouth is common and yes it can go on for hours. I have concerns over your dose and your reaction to it. I think two 900mg doses in one day would flatten me too and I am definitely not 99 pounds. Maybe when I was 12. How long have you been infusing? There is a minimum time line for infusion with clindamycin to avoid strain on the heart and liver. Also, who is making up the IVs and who is monitoring you? My latest was Mon to Fri 300, 600, 600, 900, 900mg in 150cc saline. Are you using saline or dextrose? What other meds are you on?? Do you eat prior to the IV and drink before during or after? Donna in Ottawa, CanadaDiffuse Scleroderma 1995, AP 1996 rheumatic IV clindamycin and some yucky side effects Hello- I'm taking my second round of IV cleocin (clindamycin) this week, starting yesterday (Monday) morning. Dr. Sinnott prescribed 900 mg. twice daily M-F. I did my first round in Jan., 2001, which went fine. I felt worn out after the first couple of treatments, but fine for the remainder. Since January I've lost about 10 pounds and currently weigh 99 lbs (probably a little less, as that was fully dressed at the end of the day). Yesterday after my first I.V., I became very disoriented, extremely weak, very cold (my temp. was 95.6) and nauseated. I ended up vomiting quite a bit before the whole thing was over. I was exhausted the rest of the day. I did go ahead with the second I.V. that afternoon, which we dripped in more slowly, and it went fine. This morning I stopped I.V. #3 early because I was starting to feel really funny again and wasn't going to have anyone around the house to help me as I did yesterday. (My dear husband carried me to and from the car and held my hand through all of it, then took care of me and our 2 girls the rest of the day. Another contributing factor to yesterday's "spell": I was out of town all weekend and didn't drink as much water as usual (I'm usually very good about drinking ½ to 1 gallon of water daily). A urine test during my "spell" showed that I was dehydrated. So, here are my questions. Has anyone else had side effects like these? Does anyone think the dose may be too high for my body weight? Would it hurt to NOT complete each bag of medicine, thus taking a smaller amount (say 600 mg instead of 900 mg) per treatment? Also, does anyone else get a tremendous medicine taste in their mouth during the treatments? I have a continuous medicine taste in my mouth--even right now as I type, which is almost 6 hours after the completion of my last I.V. Yes, I plan to call Dr. Sinnott, but I missed the 1:00 calling time today. I want your opinions in addition to his advice. Guest guest
, Dr. Sinnott is very experienced with this treatment. With what you've told us, your dehydration could be playing a significant part in your reactions. Also, when we start AP, anything that goes a bit " wrong " we tend to blame on the AP. It may be from other things " out of kelter " with us, including diet and such. I believe you can have faith in Dr. Sinnott, and can also feel free to discuss your concerns with him. I was about your weight when I started the IV's there in Ida Grove nearly 5 years ago. My body temperature was so low some mornings, they teased me and asked me if I were still alive. Many systems in your body are compromised, but as the mycoplasma exit, things will improve. bg > Hello- > > I'm taking my second round of IV cleocin (clindamycin) this week, starting yesterday (Monday) morning. Guest guest
I have always been encouraged to avoid a weakened state when receiving IVs of any kind. Eating prior to my IVs has always made sense for me. Of course this should be discussed with your doctor prior to the infusion as to avoid any problems with interactions.
