Guest guest
Hi all. I thought I'd respond to Beyza. Beyza, glad your mom is doing well. Some people dont mind being bald after chemo, I know, but I did mind, as I mentioned before, I didnt want to wave a flag for all to see that I had cancer. I wore a wig until my hair grew out some. Wigs are hot and itchy, or at least they can be after wearing them a while. I wore a headband underneath my wig and that helped. But, anyone who could come up with a natural looking *comfortable* wig, or something to wear beneath the wig that would make a person feel as great as being wigless, that person would make a million bucks. That is the only thing I can think of for now. Good luck, To everyone: I am reading your e's and thinking of you. As far as a cruise, well, my input is that I am scared of water; it gives me a queasy feeling when I am on a boat (or even watching a movie sometimes), plus they are expensive. I just wanted to put my 2 cents in, even though I dont have another idea at this time. I know we arent seriously planning something right now, but it sounds like the seeds are being planted such. Wishing everyone the best. Ogut Hello All, You may remember me from this summer. I wrote a lot, since I was taking care of my mother who was going through Taxotere chemotherapy for Stage IV breast cancer with liver mets. She is doing much better now. Most of the side effects of chemo are gone. She is on Femara. She is following a very health diet and all her doc's recommendations. She just looks so lively and energetic which makes all of us forget what we have gone through this summer. Whatever we had to deal with was much worth seeing her so happy right now. Anyways, just wanted to give you an update. I hope anyone who goes through chemo has such good response post-chemo. Also, I need help. I am taking Marketing Management program at Humber College in Toronto. We have a course where we need to come up with an innovative business idea and prepare a business plan. There is a 1000 $ prize at the end. The criteria is originality, and implementation of a good plan. So I need a good, original idea. I decided whatever service or product I develop, it should be geared towards breast cancer (or cancer in general) patients. I am not doing this to win the prize, since this is a learning exercise for me, but if I do win the prize, I will give all of it to Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Here is what I need from you: Let me know, as a b.c. patient or a caregiver to a b.c. patient, during the course of the treatment and sickness and theraphy what did you need? Was there anything/any service in particular that you did not have and wished someone would come up with it? I appreciate your help in advance. Hugs and kisses to everyone. Guest guest
Hello and everyone, Thanks for taking your time and giving me such great ideas. They were all so helpful. , I found a wig band on the internet for cancer patients. It balances the weight of the wig, lets air get in and holds it in place. I am thinking a " Cancer School " . I will try to find a nicer name for it. This is a school that will give you necessary information pre/post surgery/treatment, how to deal with pschological/physical issues, how to fill out forms, research, investigate, ask right questions. It would prepare you for things yo uhave to go through and plus would give you tools to deal with them. The business has to create revenue. So I think about selling merchandise related to cancer like wigs/wig bands to prevent itching, mary Ann's mastectomy packs, donation items, creams, lotions, books, etc etc. Services like house cleaning, child care for mothers taking chemo can be offered with sliding scale payments. Also getting drug companies to sponsor this " school " would bring in money. It wouldn't be a voluntary organization, but work like a voluntary organization, it would bring what other organization/charities/programs do all together and present a more wholesome approach with no aspect missing. How about that? I have to still work on it. I will send you more on it later. Thanks again, and send me more ideas if you have. Love Beyza > Hi all. > I thought I'd respond to Beyza. Guest guest
, I think your proposal sounds very comprehensive - this would be a great help to those of us who are diagnosed. I like your ideas and am glad you've included my post mastectomy drainage pouches. I am trying to market these to surgeons, as NO woman should have to pay $5,000 + for surgery, only to be sent home with drains attached to her underwear by a safety pin. So far, every doctor who looks at them tells me they're great - but NOT ONE is willing to pay for them. So much for treating the "whole woman with respect". It's a sad commentary when a surgeon sees a product he/she knows will help a patient feel more comfortable, but is unwilling to provide them. Guest guest
Hello Ann and all, It must be another w/ ideas, my only idea was the wig that one cant feel! But, I have an idea: your idea should be taken to Occupational Therapists -- they develop these kinds of ideas. They would probably show more interest than the medical community. Maybe you could contact the dean of an OT program at a university? I have a friend OT who owns a big OT company. She invented a device that, lets say, helps in the bathroom. An acquaintance of hers stole the idea, and now this device is standard issue internationally -- her (former) acquaintance is very rich right now. But OTs know how to market and develop things as most of the time they need to do it for one product while they are in their OT program. Hope this helps. , I think your proposal sounds very comprehensive - this would be a great help to those of us who are diagnosed.
