Hi Rhonda-

There have been a lot of great posts on this board from ladies who

have not had surgery (with either SU or BU) and have successfully

had babies. So there is definitely hope!

I haven't had a baby yet, but I wanted to reply anyway since I have

been having similar problems as you over the past year (the whole

SU/BU thing). Unfortunately, they did not discover that I had an MA

until I miscarried my first pg at 7 wks. After an MRI, my OB could

not determine if I was SU or BU, and so referred me to UNC-Chapel

Hill for futher examination. Like you I also have Tricare, and they

were able to refer me to the Reproductive Endocrinology clinic at

UNC, but not Duke.

After looking at my MRI and HSG, the doctors up at UNC determined

that I have an SU, because it looks like one from the outside, but

they thought that the septum was wide & maybe vascular, which should

behave more like a BU. They told me to just get pregnant again -

which didn't work out so well - and I lost the baby at 18 weeks.

So my OB referred me back up to UNC again - and now they think that

maybe they were wrong - and that maybe my septum could be removed

after all. They are going to do a hysteroscopy on Thursday - to see

if there is any way they can resect the septum. I've been very

scared that my surgery is going to go like yours -- they will get in

there and decide it cannot be fixed! What did the doctor tell you

exactly, after doing the lap/hyst? Did he actually cut into the

sptum, and then it started bleeding or soemthing?

Anyway - it sounds like we have similar uteri and you might end up

going to the same specialist as I do - so we should contine to

compare notes! I hope you get a good report on Friday, and I'm sure

I'll be posting after my surgery (good or bad)!

Hey Cheryl!

Well my OBGYN gave me the option of a second oppion but at the time

my dh was having medical problems and I didntk now if he would be

med discharged or what and we still dont know so i was looking for

the fastest at the time I thought it would work---but well my dr

apparently didnt even cut enough(I also had a BIG 6 cm cyst too---I

was disappointed yesterday to discover that well I still have that

BIG septum---its really huge!! and he is well not sure now---that

surgery wasent too bad if you have already had a Lap and hystero I

had one--one month prior--but this last surgery was alot worse but I

realy think that BIG cysts had most to do with that----I would love

to chat with you and find out what Dr you are going to at UNC in the

TRICARE network! I dont really know if i want to have another

surgery or just wait and see if i Miscarry---I know that sounds bad

but my poor body has been thru so much in the past 6 months....If i

get referred to UNC and they think they can resect it then i will

probly go head(if i can get referred out there)I do however go to a

civilian OBGYN cause Womack referred me out---Anyhow if you have

yahoo messeger im me its nccountrybumpkin@... and i am on MSN

some rhodann@... IT really does sound like our situations

are alot alike!--- also like if the septum is vascular does that

mean it has blood supply? so a baby could thrive off that? My dr is

really concerned about if i was to get preg there not being ENOUGH

room and thinks I would probly could miscarry not necessarly the

first trimester but probly 2nd so uggg---I am so drained---I just

want my hubby home finaly!

Thanks for posting!

Hey Rhonda-

You email address was sort of cut off in your message, so I'm just

posting again. I know what you mean about wanting your hubby to get

home! I'm in the same boat and its hard to deal with all this alone!

I go to the OBGYN Clinic at Womack - I'm not sure if that's good or

bad... And the doctor there would not refer me to any doctors in

Fayetteville to determine whether I had SU or BU , since he didn't

think anyone had the necessary expertise! So now I'm seeing Dr.

Murray at UNC, and he's very nice, but I'll let you know my REAL

opinion on him & UNC later this week (after surgery).

They originally told me that if my septum was vascular - it *should*

be able to support a pregnancy. But since my last pregnancy ended in

the second trimester, they're not sure if the problem was that the

septum did not have enough blood flow - or if the septum was so big

that it restricted the growth of the baby. Its definitely much worse

(mentally & emotionally) to lose a baby in the second trimester and

I'd like to do everything possible to avoid going through that

again. Hopefully I'll find out more about my chances after surgery

on Thursday.

From what I've seen, the doctors might want you to try to get

pregnant and see what happens before doing anything else - but a lot

of people on this board seek second and even third opinions before

deciding what to do. So the decision is really up to you.

Take care,

Cheryl

Yeah I go to Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and I was giving the option

of a second oppi. but well at the time and the situation I had seen

one dr that wasent even going to help me, she was rude, and didnt

even want to investigate why I was having awful pain for past 6 plus

years---And I thought that last surgery would fix it--but apparently

he didtn even cut nearly enough lol i mean I really think my septum

must have went ALLLLLL the way to the bottom of like my cervix

apparenty before(I mean we have the first surg lap and hyst pics---

ahh I dont know I am just confused (I still feel good about my Dr--

he has done alot more for me then the other two I have had in my

life that either told me my horrible cramps were normal or here pop

these pills(he suspected I had endo to begin--first appt instead of

blowing me off) so I do thank him for that. I think this Friday I

will look into that second opp. at Chapel hill(after he tells me

what ever) cause as we do know referrals CAN take forever lol I

usually just call and bugg tricare hehe I hope they will let me have

another septum resection(if i have a true sept.) cause it is covered

but since i already had one---ugg but surely.

Yeah the 2-3 trimester if not earlier is what he dr told me that

would probly have a chance of loosing a baby cause theres not being

enough room---he said it coudl be posible that it just push the

septum and have room to grown--but holy cow i dont see how its BIG i

am talking like wide-- oh when you were preggo you were going to

womack? See I am just wondering if they will MAKE me go there---

since I live out in Cameron--well mid as well say Carthage--and my

PCM is off post AND my GYN--and With all my problems if I was ever

to get preg. i would feel more comfortable going to him cause he

would want to see me MORE then probly the usual dr(I mean did womack

consider you high risk and see you more?---if they did that for me I

would probly not mind going there---I mean i know they cant do

anything to prevent the misc but just for piece of mind i would like

to be seen more--I might not have any choice)
