Guest guest
I have a question, I was wondering what the deal is with audi's only perscribing certain types of hearing aids. Do they contract with certain companies and they can't order other aids? The reason I ask is because we were really interested in the Sprite system, it is a hearing aid but you don't have to use it as an aid, it can be used as an FM system, I was hoping to ask our ENT for that, and I realize that CCRS, the clinic he works through wouldn't cover it, but I was hoping he would order it and bill our other insurance and hopefully they would pay for it, but when I called the company, it is a product of Phonic Ear, they gave me a list of audiologist offices that deal out these items in my area, and well none of them are covered by my insurance. So I am wondering if they need to have a contract with the company to dispense that type of aid, or if anyone can deal them out. The thing is if we go to another audi that is not covered by our insurance and they write out a perscription for this, the insurance won't pay for it since they are not an approved audiologist. At least that is how I thought it worked. What do I do? The audiologist and ENT we are supposed to see don't deal out FM systems either, so who do we go to who can deal out an FM system? I think our insurance is not contracted with decent audi's, one of the ones at the clinic insisted that if they gave him hearing aids because he only had a loss in the high frequencies that would over amplify the low frequencies. Now she is experienced in dispensing hearing aids, and she works at the children's clinic which deals only with children, so either she is really dumb and doesn't know what she is talking about, or they don't deal out programable hearing aids, and if that is the case why would I want to be seen by audi's who only deal out extreemely limited amount of aids? We are seeing the ENT in March and I am going to see what he says about this. I am going to ask him about programable aids and why they couldn't perscribe one of those. Also if it would be possible for them to order an FM system even if we would have to go through our regular insurance to get it. Can anyone help me here. They are telling me I can only see these audi's and ENT, but the ones they are giving me are pretty much incompetent in caring for my son's needs. What do I do?
