Guest guest
Dear All, Its wonderful to have so much information here. I especially enjoyed Kinghorn's account of how he overcame AS/ReA using the protocol, because I was diagnosed with Reactive Arthritis recently (affecting heels, Sacro-Illiac joints and shoulder). My Rheumatologist initially put me on 200mg Celebrex per day, which takes the edge off the pain, but I have just persuaded him to give me a prescription for a long term course of Doxycycline. I couldnt really talk to him about the protocol - he is too 'stuck' in his ways to listen - but he did concede that prolonged antibiotics are worth trying in my case. I am a 27 year old man, HLA B27 positive, and have had the symptoms for about a year, probably caused by a Chlamydia infection. So I have a few questions which I wonder if you all could help me with. First of all, is Doxycycline the right antibiotic to take? Most people seem to be taking Minocycline, and Kinghorn found more success with other kinds of antibiotics (Ciprofloxacin and Maxaquin), and not much at all with Doxy. Secondly, what dosage should I be taking? My Rheumatologist says 100mg once a day. Does that sound right? Thirdly, what supplements should I take? I have heard that tetracyclines inhibit the body's ability to absorb vitamins. Does anyone know about this? And what about Iron supplements? is it bad to combine Doxy with Iron? Fourthly, I would very much like to contact Kinghorn. Does anyone happen to have an email address for him? love to all, and thank for wading through all this. I know that many of you are in a lot more pain than I am, and have been suffering for longer. The honesty and bravery of all your postings is very inspiring. I hope we all get better. Guest guest
Wow if you added about four years you could have just written my story!!!! Heels!!!! Oh the pain!! That was one good thing through when all the test were being run and nothing was showing up my heels were hurting and I said something about it not even thinking it was connected but my rhumey ran the test and I came back HLA-B27 positive.... I did not start AP because I had never heard of it until about five years later, I tried magnets which did help but I find they will help for awhile and then stop... I was on doxy I did notice a little improvement in my hands but I went into a bad herx was not even able to walk, so my husband cut the doxy down to 100 mg M/W/F he did a lot of the reading back then. I am not sure which one is better though between doxy and mino I always felt like I should be on the Mino maybe it is because more people seem to be on it here. I had to stop the AP a few months ago because of some stomach problems I have been thinking about asking my doctor here about trying the mino and see if it will set better... I just got through being really ill and now I have what I HOPE is the flu and it is just hanging on... I was on Celebrex but did not ever see where it helped but I only took 100 mg a day.. I am on Klonopin, flexural and some vitamins, calcium suppose to be taking iron but it and my stomach don't get along so the doctor said to not worry about it yet... the Klonopin has been the main thing that has helped me out the most, nothing else really does anything even the really major pain killers don't effect me. I also still take my grapeseed!!!! I normally took my supplements on the days I was not on the doxy it helped me to keep everything down better. My stomach does not work right it is just the way it is no one knows why but it is a pain!! Oh there is one major difference I am not a man!! (haha) Wish I had more info for you but the one thing I learned is to learn all you can and when you go to the doctor you don't get lost and a lot of times I went in and told the doctor what I wanted and she did it because I brought her stuff off the net. She had never used AP with anyone but nothing worked for me that I could take and most of the meds I can not take!!! Peace and best wishes Sherry Dear All,Its wonderful to have so much information here.
