Reaction to Armour Thyroid vs. Generic Thyroid

Hello everyone again, After taking the generic thyroid, unknowingly, for the last six weeks, I started taking the Armour brand, 1 grain, late this afternoon. My normal dose is 2 grains a day (one in morning and one in evening). I had been taking 1 1/2 grains in the morning and 1/2 grain midday of the generic. I guess getting the real thing is why I fell asleep this afternoon for an hour or so. I was going to take another grain this evening about 8p.m. since I didn't take the meds today due to the follow-up appt. with the doc. Maybe instead of my usual dosage maybe I should start out tomorrow with 1/2 grains throughout the day. What do yo think? I sort of feel foggy right now from the 1 grain. F.

It would be okay to go with 1/2 grain doses.... there will be a transition period while your body adjusts to the different brand.

They all contain the same amount of hormone the difference is the fillers used to make them into pills... so your body might react differently to the change...

Are you swallowing the pills or taking them sublingually?

Your 'crash' may have been from being short, due to skipping the morning dose in readiness for the labs... next time... take your morning dose right after the blood draw and then the next dose at the regular time.... if you are on two doses....

When I had my labs done I stopped dosing at 7 pm the night before... and then took a double dose (my regular doses are 1/2 grain) after they drew my blood and another double dose at the next dosing time.. that made up for the two doses that I missed.....

You posted your labs in another message:

T4 6.27 UG/DL ( 4.50 - 12.00)

T-UPTAKE 0.84 Units (0.72 - 1.24)

T3 -test to follow next week pending (0.80 - 2.00)

TSH 0.05 LOW I/ML (0.47-5.01)

The T4 is still below mid range.. and it's total.. so you don't know what percentage of that is free..... suggesting the dose is low.. without Free T3 you don't know, though..... The TSH is low... but we also know all too well that the TSH number doesn't tell us much once we are on replacement.... The T3 test... did you specify Free T3.. or just T3? If they do a Total T3, as they did the Total T4.. it won't be telling us much either.

Hi Topper2. Thank you always for your response. And thanks for responding to both e-mail. Of course, I re-sent one of them again, so please disregard it. About the fillers, yes I remember in one of your posts you outlined the different fillers in each type of thyroid. I sort of figured that when the first wave hit me. WOW! no wonder armour is the thyroid of choice. It does not play around! I swallow the pills sublingually. Thanks for the tip on how to take the meds. About the labs: I asked for the frees before. If you can remember thisd doc from a previous visit does not do frees he does some kind of antiquated calculation to get his numnbers. I plan to get my own testing done after this holiday. I don't expect much more from him as long as he continues to write the script for now. I had to ponder the first one a bit.. that's why it took a bit... but it's still good that you resent... cuz they do get lost and sometimes over looked... sometimes it's Yahoo... sometimes Cyberspace... sometimes our own mailbox filters...

Getting labs on your own might be the way to go.. then just use the doc for what you can get out of him..... in so many ways I feel lucky that I'm doing this on my own... it's a challenge to order meds at time, without insurance coverage but I get to treat by symptoms and get to a place were I now feel more like a living person that just one the hasn't quite laid all the way down to be buried....

I think it might be time to post the fillers again... just so folks can check them and keep that variable in mind....

Thanks Topper, I just ordered from healthcheckusa. Hopefully, one day when I grow up, I'll be just like you (chuckle!).
