Guest guest
Tina, I took Clomid for 4 cycles, at 50 mg tablets. I had a bad experience with the drug and was switched to the injections this month. I had extreme moodswings, horrible hot flashes, the lining of my uterus thinned out, and had major dryness, which made intercourse extremely difficult, some discomfort in my stomach, but that is fairly normal with any fertility drug. The drug reacts differently with everyone, and I have heard many people do not experience any of the side effects at all. UU, PCOS ttc 3 years Hello everyone I have girlfriend who's doctor is advising her to take Clomid. She does not ovulate on a regular basis, and she would like to start trying to get pg. She is wondering if Clomid is a shot or pill, how often she will need to take it, is it painful afterwards, etc.? If any of you ladies can share your experiences with Clomid (I don't have any personal experience) so I can share them with her, we'd both appreciate it. Thank you!! Guest guest
>Hey Tina! I consider myself, the " clomid queen! " That stuff works like a charm on me. I too had very irregular periods and wasn't ovulating, so that is why my dr. prescribed clomid for me. Clomid is a little pill that you take for 5 days at the beginning of your menstrual cycle. The first time I took it, I was told to take it on days 5-9 of my cycle. It took me 3 months to get pregnant the first time taking it on those days. Unfortunately, that pregnancy ended at 19 weeks for me due to an incompetent cervix. So, when we were ready to try again, my new dr. had me take it on days 1-5 of my cycle. She said that this increased the chances of conceiving sooner. Sure enough, it took one try and I was pregnant....with twins! I am 30 weeks and 1 day pregnant right now with these 2 girls. I have UD so I am carrying one baby in each uterus as well. Weird, I know...lol! Anyway, I never really had any symptoms from the clomid, although I know of some women who become really moody and experience hot flashes and things like that. Anyway, the drug does work. I was precribed the minimum dose of 50 mg and it worked just fine for me. I have heard of some women that have to take higher dosages because the lower dose isn't effective. That's when your chances of multiples really increase from what I have heard. Hopefully the low dosage will work just fine on your friend. Anyway, that's my experience with clomid. Hope that helps Layci, 26 UD/IC My little angel in Heaven, Saylor Kayte, 12-28-03 PG with twin girls 30 weeks 1 day!

Guest guest
Hi There, As a couple of previous posters said, some women swear by Clomid. I think that if it works for some, great, but I had a really awful experience with Clomid. I took Clomid one cycle and got pregnant, but it was a chemical pregnancy (very common with Clomid due to its potential to thin your uterine lining). I experienced hot flashes, headaches, diminished sex drive, almost absent vaginal fluid, no cervical mucous, a growth of my ovarian cysts from PCOS--and this was in the weeks following taking it. I also went into a DEEP depression, caused by the Clomid. I dealt with depression when I was a teen and I used recreational drugs as a form of self-medicating and I can always tell the difference between depression and a chemically induced depression. The Clomid depression was intense and lasted for about 60 days after I took my first dosage. Also, Clomid slightly raises the chances of a woman getting ovarian cancer--especially at increased doses and if taken more than 6 times in a woman's life (keep in mind that it just raises the chances, doesn't guarantee that it will happen). As one of the previous posters mentioned, Letrozole, brand name Femara, is a drug that's an aromatase inhibitor and it has very minimal side effects. It's a drug that's given to women to fight breast cancer, so there is no threat of ovarian cancer, and it doesn't affect your uterine lining, so if you get pregnant, your chances of the egg being able to implant and stay are much higher. Also, there is less chance of multiples. Since many women who have mullerian anomalies also tend to have problems with incompetent cervix, most doctors will try to avoid a multiples pregnancies if at all possible. Here's a link to a great article about aromatase inhibitors vs. Clomiphene Citrate (Clomid). http://sitemaker.umich.edu/rei/files/mitwally.ai.2004.pdf#search='ana strozole%20pcos' Although some women still choose to go with Clomid, I think it's always wise to make an informed decision. I wish I had researched Clomid a bit more before I took it because the side effects were so severe with me. From what I've seen, more and more doctors are leaning toward Femara as the first drug in infertility treatments, where Clomid used to the the automatic first choice. No offense to all of the Clomid faithfuls, I just wanted to give another opinion! Guest guest
Hi Tina-What a nice friend you are!! I have a love/hate relationship with Clomid!! It is pretty nasty (I had hot flashes, headaches, cramping, and mood swings.) But, it definitely works for me. I also ovulate inconsistently and have a weak LP. With my DS, I got pregnant after 3 cycles of clomid, and I just found out this week that I'm pregnant again after 2 cycles of clomid. In my opinion, it is totally worth all the bad stuff! (Just my opinion, though!!) It does come in pill form. Most docs start with a dosage of 50 mgs and sometimes increase this if it doesn't work. Wishing your friend lots of luck... UU, 30 DS (8-31-03) 4 weeks 1 day w/ #2!!!
