Guest guest
Sometime ago, someone posted about bathroom scales. I think that might have been me. I had just purchased a "Tanita" scale, which also measures your body fat. We have had it for about 2 months now, and still happy with it. It measures in .5 lb increments, (which I think is a riot!) You set the scale for your height and it weighs you and then figures your body fat. The one we got has memory for 2 people and you can also adjust it for a child. We got it at E-Bay for about $85.00 including shipping. It retails for about $125.00 (or so they say) Carol

Guest guest
Thanks for asking. It's been an exhausting week. (My brother-in-law died suddenly a week ago.) I'm OK. DH is on the way to Madrid. (I think.. .) The girls are in the tub. I'm going to take a bath when they're asleep and hit the hay early. And will probably do a Sam's run this weekend too. It's been a couple of months since I've looked for a scale at Sam's but they carried them for quite a while. Lowcarbing is maintaining right now. But I'll be back tomorrow. On the continuing adventure. . . :)Jane Gosh Jane.... at Sam's Club?? I am going there this weekend.i will check. Di p.s. how are you doing?? Guest guest
Thanks for the information on the scales. I found the one you described and it retails for $124.95 at a discount scale site, plus not shipping costs. Guest guest
Hereis a consumer report on a scale. This was posted on AAWOL <<< " The new model, like the previously tested ones, was very accurate as a regular scale, but it consistently overestimated body fat for most people. Still, the TBF-611 can give you a good idea of your body-fat percentage: Our tests suggest that you should subtract 3 percentage points from what you see on the scale's display if you're a man or 8 percentage points if you're a woman. The scale is most useful for measuring decreases in your body fat as you follow a diet and exercise program. Guest guest
Last week I bought one of the new Tanita scales. They are around $60. It has most of the features, except it's mostly for weighing and if you want to check you body fat it does that, too. http://www.tanita.com/consumer/products/ultimate/ultimate.html I have to say that it really drove me crazy for the first few days. I expected to see that I weighed more than I thought, but I wasn't prepared for the body fat. I weighed 137 (3-4 lbs. more than the old scale) and my body fat is 30%. I have been doing an aerobic exercise every day for over a year and added 3 days of weight training 3 days a week for the past 6 months. I think I was expecting around 25%. I got off and on it a whole bunch of times for the first few days. I finally had 29% after I exercised , but then it was 31% in the evening. When I put my height and weight in as a male and stepped on it, I was 20%. So I guess I would be healthy if I was a man. The reason I got the scale is because I was feeling good about myself and wanted to know if I could stay in the 130's and stop trying to loose. I've been the same weight since Sept. I was thinking that if my body fat was in a normal range, maybe this is weight I should be. I am supposed to be doing an induction challenge this week and blew it after seeing this. To make a long story short. I haven't been back on it and thinking about taking it back, so I wouldn't obsess. It really brought me down last week. Some people have written to tell me that the body fat may not be accurate, so I'm feeling somewhat better. If you are looking for a scale that weighs you accurately and occasionally want to check your body fat, I would recommend this model, because it's less expensive and everyone in the family can use it without re-programming what's stored. Guest guest
Barb, I'd take the darn thing back. You are doing great. Why do we obsess about our bodies? I am the biggest offender. Last night I dreampt that nothing in my closet would zip or button. Arrrggghhh! Hang in there....love, Dianne

Guest guest
I haven't seen any posts on this, so I thought I would share. I have had a analog scale for years. The little dashes are so small I can usually only guesstimate within about a pound or so what it is telling me. This week I got a new scale (Tanita BF-679) at Amazon for $45. This thing is great. I love the fact that I can step on it 10 times and get the same answer 10 times. Cheaper scales seem to vary widely from test to test. This scale also measures body fat which I think is pretty darn neat. Accurate to .2 pounds and .5% BF. Just my 2 cents. dan
Guest guest
Dan, I bought a Tanita body fat scale a few years back, but never felt the body fat measuring was very accurate. It varied greatly whenever my husband and I tried to get a reading. I ended upreturning it, because it was quite expensive at the time (around $100) and we had specifically bought it for the body fat part. Are you getting fairly consistent readings on your body fat? And do they seem accurate? Maybe they have improved the scales.
