Guest guest
Just curious...Can any of you tell me how many hours per week/day your child has a TOD? If a child has a need to build vocabulary and have some preteaching in a subject to give some background info before reading a text/taking part in a lesson, would that be a TOD's specific job? My daughter does well with a little prep and didn't need much help in k-2 when the classroom teachers really set the stage for a lesson/reading. She does well at home when we first talk about some of the vocab and story setting and then she reads. However, in third grade the teacher doesn't quite get it and the TOD is now making goals for reading comp. when I think mostly what my daughter needs is proper vocabulary pre-teaching and a framework for the lesson. (The classroom teacher teaches everything orally...sometimes uses the overhead...gives lots of worksheets....yuk). Also, is it unrealistic to expect a child to be able to tell back orally (after any reading assignment - to a TOD or classroom teacher) the readings he/she has done to give main idea and supporting details to check comprehension and assimilation of vocabulary? The school is looking into " using other resources " to meet the services she needs, but I don't know what the suggestions are yet and am wary of not increasing the TOD time in 4th grade due to the additional demands of the content areas. Hope this is clear...Any thoughts? Thanks,
Guest guest
Jill, When you say your son had a TOD, he was mainstreamed? When did this TOD see him? Was it a Co-teaching classroom? Our TOD's are in a contained classroom. Can you tell me how they fit a TOD into the schedule? I've never heard of a TOD visiting/working with a mainstreamed classroom. Does your school have a D/HH classroom? Thank you, Donna Fisher mother to ny severe mod
