Guest guest
I used to use the Just Pears bars before SCD and my son did enjoy them. I think that, theoretically, they would be legal -- if your child were at the stage that they could tolerate dried fruit and/or the relevant sugar from the fruit like that (if I remember correctly, it's the equivalent of 3 pears) -- however, it is a pre-prepared food, and some people advise against pre-prepared foods without a statement from the manufacturer attesting to the content. Kirkman does know that the children who to a large part comprise their clientele are on dietary restrictions. Guest guest
You've been doing SCD for 2 years with no nuts or honey? You'll have to share your secrets with us to help out those other moms of kids with nut allergies. As for honey, it is the only food that never spoils. Honey does not mold. So, I am unsure why mold would be a concern with it. Pollen may be a problem in raw, unfiltered honey. But clear honey has been filtered and for most people there is no issue with the pollen. The Just Pears snack bars have not been approved by Elaine, but from my understanding they do not have any illegal ingredients in the plain ones. Homemade is always the best choice, but the use of pre-made products always lies with the consumer. Those Just Pear bars have the equivalent of two pears. So, the fruit is very consdensed making it far more difficult to digest than regular fruit. Since your son's been on the diet for 2 years, I would guess that he tolerates dried fruit okay. How does he does with raisins, dates, etc? As for lunch ideas, have you tried the chicken cupcakes, chicken pancakes, soufle bread (with veggies), soups (in a Thermos)? How about avocado chicken salad? Pieces of quiche? Can he tolerate raw foods? Carrot sticks, celery sticks? There are dairy free mock ranch or salad dressing recipes for veggie dips.
