Hi Patti - where in NH do you live? I'm in Hanover - in the western part of the

state.

We live too far away for our boys to have gone to HEAR but I know several folks

who work there and they are wonderful people. Lynda French is one of the

teachers of the deaf/hoh there. She used to be the ToD for the MICE program

(MICE is the state program that provides services to birth to 3 year olds). She

worked with my Sam and was incredible. Mike Moon is also a teacher of the

deaf/hoh - he's the director now and is a wonderful, compassionate person who

really gets working with deaf/hoh kids. If we'd lived closer, I would have had

my kids there in a heartbeat! HEAR in NH is a preschool/kindergarten program

for oral deaf/hoh kids - they're the only program like that in the state.

If you want an oral program for your child, that's where I'd send mine....

Good luck!

Hi Patti--

Echoing Barbara's remarks about HEAR. Mike Moon, the director, I know. because

he worked for the state when we first moved here and was very compassionate and

helpful getting us set up with Matt's first FM and school services. Matt's

current educational audiologist, Louise Brozena, is on their board of

directors and she's WONDERFUL. There aren't many programs and services for

deaf/hoh kids in this state, but if you are moving to NH and want an oral

program, you can't go wrong with these folks.

Actually, we live in MA now, and Emma goes to e -

depends on Emma's education. I certainly was impressed

with HEAR when I met with Mike today (his Goddaughter

is Emm'as teacher at e). I have to start

researching the surrounding communities and narrow

down where we want to live. I need to know that the

district we end up in will support Emma in the best

possible way. any suggestions?

Hi Patti - Luann or someone more 'down south' :>) might be able to answer your

question about good areas in and around the Concord/Manchester area. We've been

very pleased with our school district - we're in Hanover which is about 1/3 way

up and borders Vermont. It's about an hour from Concord. Hanover is where

Dartmouth College is so we've found the community in general to be very open to

our boys. The folks at our school have been wonderful and extremely

accommodating. Our boys are the only two in their school with hearing loss -

since there's a greater population in the southern area there are I'm sure more

deaf/hoh kids there.

We moved here from New Orleans when Tommy, our oldest, was 18 months old and

Sam hadn't been thought of (we moved here in January, 1994 and Sam was born in

October 1994 - it was the coldest winter on record so you do the math!). I

loved living in New Orleans but can't imagine trying to educate our boys in the

city. We all feel lucky we're here....

thanks
