Guest guest
Thanks Amy. It is amazing and she has not even had her nose reconstuctions done yet. We love her plastic surgeon. He really loves what he does and it shows in his work. When people ask us about her cleft, they are usually shocked that it was a bilateral complete cleft of the lip and palate because she looks so good. Guest guest
, What a beautiful slide show! Gosh, I can't stop crying now--it brought back so many memories for me. Our daughter had bilateral cleft lip and palate, too. We took SO many pictures of her, both before and afterwards. She was just beautiful to me either way. I remember all too well the arm restraints, too--boy, did hate those! And how she looked once her lip repair was all healed was just amazing to me--that doctors can do such skilled and miraculous work always leaves me in awe. To me, the surgeons that perform miracles on children and adults every day are the ones who deserve to make millions instead of sports stars and other celebrities. Guest guest
, I agree with you on the doctors vs. sports stars and celebs. Her plastics doctor always writes off the amount we owe him after appointments. I called one day because I had not received a bill and it had been a while. His nurse said that there was no balance. She told me that he wrote it off and did not want us to have to pay for it. It's not much but it helps when we have so many other medical bills. The arm restraints -- I was giving her bath one night and when I finished and went to put them back on, I couldn't find them. I looked everywhere. I thought I had thrown them away on accident or something. Well, I got her to sleep and decided that I would have to wait till morning to find them and prayed that she did not wake up and damage anything. Finally, the next morning, I continued my search and came up empty. Then I asked her sister who was 2 at the time if she had seen them. She said yes and told me they were in her dresser. When I asked her how they got in her dresser, she said that she hid them there because she did not want me to put them back on . I cried when came out of surgery because she looked so different. I was so use to the way she looked before her repairs. I also think she was beautiful before and after. I think for most people, you have to have lived it to truly understand that. Guest guest
I know exactly what you mean, . My husband and I both say that we will never forget how looked when we first walked into the recovery room after her lip repair--that picture will forever be etched in my mind. It was such an emotional day. If you'd like to see pictures of before and after, our story is on the Cleft Palate Foundation's web site: http://www.cleftline.org/som/0306/som0306Kauffman.htm The story is a little old--we don't even talk about CHARGE in it because, although we had the diagnosis by then, it really didn't mean a whole lot to us at that time until we learned more about it. But it does bring back a lot of memories to go back and read it from time to time. Love the story about 's sister hiding the arm restraints! Her sister was already advocating for her, even at age 2! :-) , mom to (4) --------------------------------- Yahoo! Messenger with Voice. PC-to-Phone calls for ridiculously low rates.
