Guest guest
Hi I never use the urine testing sticks for ketones because once my daughter's blood ketones reach about 2.5 they show 16+. Since her blood ketones are always higher than 3.5, the urine sticks are not at all helpful. I also have a Medisense Optium for measuring blood ketones and glucose and find it a very helpful finetuning tool. The results that I obtain on the Optium are slightly lower than those returned by the lab (each time we have blood drawn at the lab, I do a fingerstick test too, to compare the results). The glucose usually comes back 0.1 - 0.3 lower, the BOHB (ketones) are up to 30% lower ie 3.5 on the Optium, 4.5 from the lab. I find that this doesn't matter though, because I always base my judgements on the Optium results, so they are valid comparisons. Guest guest
Do you still measure blood ketones daily - is your daughter OK about the finger pricking? I was surprised when I first measured Francesca's blood ketones about half an hour after tea and it measured 0.6 which I thought seemed very low. Thanks for your reply. > >Does anyone check blood ketones? A monitor is now available in the > >UK, which is easy enough to use (and only costs £12.00) - is it a > >good thing to do?
