Phyllis,

The one and only time my TSH went up, my endo wrote me a new

prescription and suggested that I toss my current batch of pills and

get a new one from a different pharmacy. That solved the problem.

In addition to taking your Synthroid correctly, it's also important

to store it correctly; heat (from a radiator, sunlight, a closed

car, etc.) can reduce its potency drastically. And even if YOU are

storing it correctly, there's never any way of knowing what that poor

batch of pills went through between the factory and the pharmacy.

Sometimes the only solution is to get new pills and hope they weren't

delivered in the same truck as the old ones!

Phyllis, you probably already have thought of these things, but just

in case:

Have the pills been exposed to heat?

Could you have defective pills?

Have you recently changed anything (started estrogen, menopause, other

medication or food changes?) There are a lot of things that can

interfere with the absorption of T4, even if you are not missing any

doses.

Hi Phyllis,

TSH is not an indicator of cancer, it's an indication that you should be

increasing your T4 dosage. If it's been increasing slowly over the past 6

months, your doctor should have increased your dosage to get it to a proper

level.

Did you recently have your TT and RAI? If so, it might be rising because

thyroid cells are dying resulting in a need for more T4.

Hope that helps.

Betty

It should - 2 1/2 weeks is a long time away - and they'll test it

closer to the time (probably a few days before) to verify it. I was

worried because mine was 27.6 a few days prior to getting my scan

dose. In those few days, it went up to 44.

It may vary some, but my lab's " normal " is 0.3 - 5.0

Hi a,

I get lower back pain when I go hypo, too. It helps a little to stretch

it. I do knee lifts and a stretch where I bend at the waist and let my

upper body just flow towards the floor.
