Guest guest
Hi everyone, I had open RNY 04-02-01 and have lost 141 pounds. I found out last week that I am pregnant! We have tried for years, without success. I have gone through fertility treatments for years. I had a miscarriage and a premature baby that died shortly after birth. I have adopted my husbands 2 children, I have raised them as my own for years and they only know 'me' as momma anyway. I took Clomid and we were actually surprised to find out that I was pregnant this time, due to alot going on the past few months. We just didn't think about it much. Which I am sure that the weight loss has helped me alot also. I had another doctor appt today and got an ultrasound picture...About 6 weeks pregnant now. I have several questions and my doctor is not that familiar with gastric bypass surgery, so he doesn't have much advise on the subject. He is also an infertility specialist, and I have to find an OB that delivers now. I am taking a prenatal vitamin now and still taking 2 childrens chewables a day. Do you think I am getting enough vitamins from this? I also take 4 tums a day...for calcium (before I was pregnant I took this also). I am concerned about getting enough folic acid and calcium. I am also constipated. Any advise? My dr only suggested more fruits and vegs. After RNY I never had diahrea anyway...but I have never been constipated like this before either. I have been eatting lots of prunes and apples too. Anyone here have fertility problems in the past? Incompetent cervix? After about 14 weeks i will have to get a stitch in my cervix to support the groing weight of the baby. Also will be on bed rest. I live in Georgia. Anyone else? Well........this was a brief history and a few questions I am concerned about. Any advise is appreciate. Thanks, Sharon
Guest guest
Congratulations! I had fertility problems with the first child pre WLS and took 50mg clomid for my second pregnancy. Each Day, I take One centrum chewables per day, Vitalady's brand of 2000 mg Calcium with 500 mg Magnesium (2 pills), One 1000 MG with 400 MG Folic Acid chewable from GNC and one 50mg B6 prescribed by Dr. In the afternoon, I have added 50mg of Vitalady's Iron supplement. At 28 weeks we will do a blood lab check to check on the vite levels. I concur with the colace (spelling), I wouldn't want to run the risk of constipation. Good Luck! Guest guest
Hey Sharon. My name's and I live in Georgia (Alpharetta). I had open rny 3/27/01 - Dr. Macik. Just gave birth to a healthy baby boy on 4/2/02. I was referred to a dietician when I found out I was pregnant (because I was only 3 months post-op). I continued to lose weight my entire pregnancy and at 3 days post-partem I was at goal. Started out at 242 now at 140. Please email me directly at jafflick@... if you would like to know more specific info -- I'd be glad to share. > Hi everyone, > > I had open RNY 04-02-01 and have lost 141 pounds. Guest guest
Sharon, Welcome to the group and congrats on getting preggo after trying for so long. I suggest consulting a nutritionist if possible about you supplements and constipation. In my case I take two prenatal vites, one Iron, one folic acid, and two calcium supps. In addition I also get B-12 shots each month and take a peri-colace every other day to keep my bowls moving. The constipation is one thing I would not overlook especialy if you have an incompetent cervix you don't want to have to strain and push to use the bathroom. Anyway nice to meet you and good luck. Guest guest
Sharon, get your labs drawn (it's called a metabolic panel) to see what your calcium level is--that's the best way to tell if you're on track. If not you can easily add Viactive Calcium Chews to your daily regimen to boost your calcium needs---they're pretty tasty if you like caramels. I also take 2 prenatals per day (Prenate GT) and it gives me more than enough Folic Acid. But then again you can also eat a bowl of Total Cereal per day to boost your Folic Acid intake as well. As for your constipation, the prunes, apples & vegetables are well and good, but try drinking at least 8-10 glasses of water per day, take stool softeners (NOT laxatives) and drink a glass or two or three of Citracel per day (I don't use Metamucil because the animal-based psyllium husk bulking agent causes horrendous gas, whereas the plant-based methylcellulose Citracel bulking agent doesn't). This will get things moving nicely--promise! Take care and good luck!
