Guest guest
Ron, I am wondering if there is a problem with nuts because there are a couple of nut yogurt recipes on pecanbread.com that seem to fit your requirements. You can get dairy free yogurt starter from GI ProHealth. It's called Progurt and you can order it here. http://www.giprohealth.com Elaine doesn't dislike Kefir, but she says that it's not really for new people. It's more of an advanced type of food. The nut yogurt would be a good place to start. Jody mom to -6 and -8 SCD 23 months

(Although you are free to pursue whatever diet you wish SCD does not employ the protocols of Body Ecology or GFCF) However, SCD does include fermented vegetables like home made sauerkraut if that is any help to you. In " Breaking the Vicious Cycle, Elaine Gottschall explains that Dr. Haas, who originated the diet recommended it to her for her child. At the time, Elaine found an acceptable sauerkraut at a particular deli in New York. Elaine wrote on her website: I just went to a search engine to find Kimchi and it appears to be simply wonderful for SCD™. It is pickled, fermented vegetables, usually cucumbers, cabbage, etc. As always, it depends how it is made. As long as it is not thickened with starchlike thickeners and sweetened with additional sweetener, it sounds simply great. However, like all raw veggies and fruits, when starting the diet, take it easy, a bit at a time. It sounds like a great food. Carol F. Guest guest
Hi Carolyn, Thanks for the input, my husband posted this question regarding our son. Our son was on the gfcf and soy free diet for 6 months without much improvement, and we have been on the SCD (dairy free) for a couple of months and can't seem to make a dent yet with the bacteria/yeast. It was suggested by out DAN doctor to use fermented foods to get the benefit of this diet, and it sounds like the only one that will be OK for our son will be the fermented vegetables. I will look into getting these, any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks -nne > > > > Hi all, > > > > Maybe the title is not accurate, but this is what I need help on: > > > > My son has been on the SCD for 2 months, but since he is also GFCF he > > has not had any yohgurt or fermented mixtures. Guest guest
Hi nne and Ron, I think you may have missed Jody's reply to your post http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/message/27239 You also have the option of fermented nut milk (aka making nut yogurt). Depending on the shape of your son's gut this may be gentler than eating fermented vegetables. Although you can pour off the juice of the feremnted vegetables until your child is ready to try some of the veggies. Whichever you decide to try just remember to start small because both are powerful and can cause more die-off. Also concerning the bacteria/yeast problem you may want to check out the Yeast and SCD file at http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/pecanbread/files/ Lastly, Are all of his fruits and veggies peeled, deseeded and cooked? If not, they may still be feeding the bad microorganisms.
