Guest guest
Has anyone here had a hernia as a result of the colon surgery? Mom has had one and was told to have it repaired. She had planned to do it when she finished chemo, but the recurrence has changed everything. It is protruding quite a bit; at least, I think it is the hernia. I suspect this needs to be taken care of, but maybe now is not the time. Sharon
Guest guest
I'll answer your question with my reasoning about my hernia. I have had two abdominal surgeries and I have had a hernia in the same place after each surgery (just above my navel). I'm a T2, N0, M0 so I fully expect to live a long active life (I'm 41 and have a lot to do!). I'm going to have surgery 4/15 to do a mesh repair of the hernia. It will probably be a laproscopic procedure and the Dr. won't open me up unless he has to. I'm expecting 1 day or less in the hospital and out of work about 1 week (or less). Anyway, I'm very active and I've been running for the past 2 months about 15-20 miles a week. I want to be in good shape if I have to fight this disease again! The hernia doesn't bother me but it has gotten a bit bigger over time. I can only expect it to get bigger. I don't expect any further surgeries. Since I want to be able to be very physically active (lifting weights again) I elected to get the sucker fixed. I really don't want anyone cutting me again but this will not go away on it's own and I don't have any other problems that would get in the way. I might reconsider the whole thing if I had evidence of recurrance or some other problem that might require me to scale back my physical activity or something that would require strength to fight disease. Again, if the hernia is causing problems then you might want to have it fixed. Otherwise, I'd wait it out until it's a good time or it becomes necessary. That's what I'm doing anyway, your situation may be different. Good luck and remember, Miracles happen! Cliff H. > Has anyone here had a hernia as a result of the colon surgery? Guest guest
Not sure if woman react differently than men,yes Nick has a hernia. He had another one long ago and had surgery. He was told not to lift anything really heavy(20#'s) but they said nothing about operating.
