Most of us found out by either losing a pregnancy or starting to lose

one. Most people with MAs have good cervices.

No one has much of an objective test for this when a woman has not

yet been pregnant. They used to say that having an internal os wider

than a certain width was a good hint, and there is some truth to

that, but it is still not a reliable indicator of future IC.

Past history of injury to the cervix, surgery to it or any other

anomaly is another hint that there could be IC in the future. Having

two cervices per se is not a clear indicator.

Absent any history or plain evidence of cervical abnormality, your

best bet is to confer with your OB and/or perinatologist and get

monitored during the critical weeks of your pregnancy for cervical

shortening.

Thanks for this info - I was wondering what the answer would be for a

first pregnancy too. I haven't seen an OB yet (impatiently waiting)

but when I do I will have a whole list of questions for him.
