Re: stool changes during illness

Yes yes yes... my youngest is 21 mos old and I suspect is celiac. He's been on

SCD since June and has had 2 tummy bugs (with diarhea) and it does take him much

longer to get over them. In fact, since the last one (mid Nov) he really hasn't

been the same. He is having yellow or light stools and it goes back and forth

from grainy and loose to firm. It's very strange.

I must throw in that he is still nursing (nap and bedtime) and I am not SCD

legal. So, technically he's not completely legal. This is something I realize

I MUST take care of - either wean or get me legal or both! It's obvious to me

that a lot more healing needs to take place in him and I know I have to be

hindering this progress. But, that said, I think kids with intestinal issues

take longer to get over these tummy bugs as they do damage like any assault

(dietary, bacterial, etc.) would do. It always seems to be one step back after

we go through this. It eventually straightens itself out, but just takes a

little more time.

stool changes during illness

Abby has been very sick with a stomach virus as was/is the rest of the family.

She had diarrhea (which she never has) and vomiting, fever. She has been

better the last several days but still has a total change in stool color. From

brown to light yellow. She still is a bit cranky. Anyone else have this

problem with change of stool color after a virus?

I am thinking it's not been long enough for her bm's to go back to normal (for

her)

Thanks,

Kathy

mom to Abby

Hi Kathy,

Color change (stool) is pretty normal during illness and until it all

clears out of their systems.

I usually keep my kids on a simple diet until they seem to be over

it. It seems to help them clear nasty stuff out sooner.

I think you are probably right that she just needs a little more time.

Thanks, the color is still not right. It's been about 10 days since she

first got sick.

She has a compromised immune system due to mercury and her illness's always

take longer to get over. I just hate it because she was doing so well with

out the sulfasalazine

and her stools were looking really good.

It was a nasty virus though. My whole family got sick!!

Hi Kathy,

Has the frequency of bm's reduced. Or is she still having diarrhea

(loose, watery stools occurring more than three times in one day) in

addition to the color change?

Hi, Thanks for your concern. It's been rough around here with 4 people sick

in

one week. I was so sick with it I even passed out!

Abby finally had a good BM yesterday that looked " normal " for her.

She is acting so much better. It's been about 12 days since she first threw

up.

What an awful virus! I think the MB12 and diet has helped her a lot. No,

she

doesn't go very often. In fact that's one of her big issues. But when she

did go

it was yucky and not normal. She never goes more than once or twice a

day..........
