--If you have had troubles your whole life, your muscles may

have had to adjust with the incongrueties. If you've had troubles for

a while, you still will for a while. The longer you had it coming

into surgery, the longer you'll carry it post op. Our bodies tend to

adjust when we have something as minor as a sore toe or a blister on

the heel. Have you had a PT to work with?

I had serious muscular issues previous to surgery. I am still

learning new muscles. If I am walking around a jobsite and crouch

under something to avoid hitting my head, I could just drop on the

ground. Its like someone tweaked my muscle switch and I go down like

a house of cards. I'm finding weak links in my muscles all the time.

But 13 months after surgery, I'm finding less and less problems. You

must find the weaknesses and work on them. The joint is good but the

supporting muscles really suck at their job right now. That can

attribute to a heck of a lotta aches and pains.

Also, who was your surgeon?

Hey, it will be a struggle to get your muscles around. Don't be

disheartened by the " immediate miracles posted here and on some

websites. If you came into surgery with weakened muscle groups, you

won't fly out of surgery or 2-3 months later be able to " Riverdance "

A new joint won't cure the muscle troubles. It fixes the joint.

People who make these claims are either fooling themselves or weren't

as bad off as the rest of us pre op.

I joined the Community College Gym, they have a trainer who will work

with me or give me advise on what to work on. Perhaps there is some

opportunity for you in your area.

Keep yer chinnup. We're all in this together.

- have you tried massage? Or gentle

stretching/strengthening exercises done in the swimming pool?

I find those two very helpful with muscle soreness...

an aside to Cap's response - I was touched by the compassion

in your eloquent post - you are absolutely right. Many people

have had these miraculous recoveries, but for some of us who

have had a lifetime of problems can easily get disheartened by

the extra time and effort it seems to be taking to heal up. Thanks

for the words of wisdom.

Hello ,

I have to second the post below re. Massage heartily. When I first read your

letter, I was deeply touched but did not know how to respond in a way that

could help.

Try a deep therapuetic massage rather than a relaxation muscle massage. You

have been using a lot of muscles in new ways and you could be experiencing

feedback from that. I had severe pain in my knee, thigh, calf, shin, and

ankle which was all caused by my hip. (oddly no hip or pelvic pain at all)

The Dr. thought it was caused by a sciatic injury as I'd had that before

with

exactly the same symptoms. I went to a chiropractor weekly for a year

working on alignment and I tried pain medications, all to no avail.

Then a friend suggested this massage. I dismissed them for a long time but

finally tried it. The results were miraculous for me. This was a deep tendon

massage as the therapist immediately identified the source of my pain as

being from swollen & enflamed tendons. (those were caused by the hip) What

she did was to streatch & pull & massage the tendons with a hot herbal

infused oil, & made me go home with a wrap of this heated oil mixture taped

on my lower back. I couldn't remove it or take a shower for 24 hours. But as

I say, I was amazed by the result. After the first 1/2 hour session the pain

was 80 per cent better and where before, I could only lift my foot about 3 "

off the ground, I could now lift my knee to my waist. After the second

treatment it was even that much better. She obviously could not cure the

hip, but she did take away a lot of the pain.

I don't know if this would work for you, but it certainly releived a lot of

pain for me that medications couldn't touch. It may be worth considering

giving it a try once. If it does not work for you, you will be out about

$30-$40.00. If it works like it did for me, you'd be missing at least a good

portion of your pain.

Sincerely,

Greg

Have you gone back to your surgeon and voiced your concerns?

Issues or problems like yours have been discussed on this board

recently. Some possible causes of pain are ossification and femor

fractures. Search the back postings and you'll get all the

information that you need.

You should go back and have x-rays taken to eliminate these

possiblities.

P.S. May I ask,...who was your Surgeon?

Could be ossification . I am going through it and although

you sound as though your in more pain than me, theres a lot of

similarities with myself.

A simple x-ray will ease your mind.

Get it checked out.

Good luck, and i hope your pain eases.

Hi all,

I have just hit the 4 month mark BHR Aust. and like have

had life long problems with my hip and OA for the last 20 years so my

muscles are taking a long time to adjust. I am going through another

bout of muscle pain as I have just begun work (teacher) and I am on

my feet a lot more than I have been. It is frustrating to still be

having pain but at the same time I am walking really well for short

distances unassisted and I can feel the muscles getting stronger

every week. Great to read posts like the Captains reminding us that

in time we too will enjoy the full benefits of our experience.

I have been receiving regular massages from a myotherapist who

specializes in deep tissue massage and muscle manipulation which has

helped greatly. Over at the TH board we initiated the turtles club

for the slow healers. As a turtle we will beat the hare's everytime.

All the best

Dasher
