Gimping to catch up again, dang it - spent the weekend thinking our phone

line was broken, only to find it was the actual physical PHONE all along,

arrgh!

I almost always cook for Thanksgiving, unless we're doing a family thing

(Himself's parents and sisters all live here in town...) This year they're

all going to a particular buffet. Eeeeeeeew! I'm sure there are great

buffets out there, but the one they chose make us sick every time we've

tried....

SO anyway, we had an invite to a church friend's, where we would have

dined with our priest and a large number of Moldovan college students who

are here on work visas...

But Himself now has to work several parts of Thanksgiving day, so I've

got a nice fat chicken thawing, and all the other bits needed to make a nice

comfy Thanksgiving meal for two - we have our Metropolitan's dispensation

from the Advent fast for only one day, so we need to not have leftovers to

tempt us! :-)

And so, while I would have enjoyed the someone-else-cooking and the

company at our friends' house, on the other hand I can spend the entire day

in my jammies if I am so moved.... ;-)

OT-Thanksgiving plans

Hi hope it is ok with Sharon,n and nne to ask this:

I was wondering what everyone's Thanksgiving plans are, or, if in fact, you

even celebrate Thanksgiving. I'm not sure I know what happens in South

Africa, Sweden or Turkey! I'm planning on being with my family-5 kids and my

hub, and going down to PA to share the day with 4 of my 5 sibs and my dad

who is in assisted living. The only drawback is, we are going out to eat. It

does save on preparation and clean up, but will cost each of us $35 per

person! Most family members just have 2 in their group, so we will be

hard-pressed as we are 7. Add to that the hotel we are staying in, which

will be an additional $200 (for 2 rooms), and it is a heap of $. It will

however be fun to be with family. Last year I was in a psych unit while my

family celebrated the same way as is planned for this year.

I'll save that for the next nice roast beef (sometime after Christmas...)

'cause we gotta eat everything up in one day! Himself HAS to have his

stuffing, and I HAVE to have some " sinful potatoes " , and then you add in

dessert, and and and.... :-)

SINFUL POTATOES

However many potatoes you need, peeled and sliced

Some milk

Some butter

Some cream cheese

Some sour cream

Some feta cheese (no, really!)

Some fresh chives

Salt, pepper, etc, to taste

Layer your potatoes in a covered baking dish of a size that it will be

about 2/3rds full (does that make sense? :-) ) Sprinkle with salt and

pepper - sea salt and fresh-ground pepper are best).

Pour in just enough milk to cover the bottom of the dish, and put your

desired amount of butter on top of the potatoes. (Remember you'll be adding

more " wet " ingredients later, so err on the side of caution).

Cover, and put in the oven along with whatever meat you're cooking.

Check for potato tenderness after about 45 minutes; they're done when

fork-tender.

Remove from oven. Add sour cream, cream cheese, crumbled feta, and mash

- taste as you go, and add more yummies as needed. When the texture is to

your liking, stir in the chives and adjust salt/pepper seasoning.

These can be returned to the oven for a short time to keep warm, or

transferred to a small crockpot for transport to potlucks, etc - they get

better with more gentle heat...

You can make 'em some LESS sinful with just sour cream...

The nice thing is that you're not boiling away the nutrients, and it's all

in one dish.

Hi KateUnfortunately, we don't have a Thanksgiving in South Africa. We have a lot of holidays, I think there's at least one day in every month. Most of them we're not too sure of what it's about. LOL Too many things to remember. But we do have Christmas and I think we celebrate it the same way most do all over the world. But I'm still sad about the Thanksgiving, it means I miss out on eating. Oh that's really sad. LOL So can I come over and have some turkey? LOLLove To: MSersLife Sent: Mon, November 23, 2009 9:25:44 PMSubject: OT-Thanksgiving plans

Nah, then we just call 'em mmmmmmmmmmmmm... ;-)

The original Sinful Potato recipe is from our priest (hah!) but when I

" brought it home " I changed it to go into the oven for less muss, less fuss.

Actually the sour cream+whatever+you've+got is yummy... try some

shredded cheese of any type - pepperjack is FAB.... okay, now I gotta go

make lunch, I'm hungry!
