If anyone has more info about why you are on it please let me know. The LID helps the RAI do a more effective job. Basically its a diet where you avoid Iodine - no iodized salt, avoiding foods high in iodine, dairy, fish, red dye #3, seaweed, the full details are on the www.thyca.org site. The idea is that if you starve any remaining thyroid cells for iodine.. they really soak up the radioactive stuff even more.. they become avid for iodine.. and this causes the RAI scan to be more accurate because more iodine is picked up by the thyroid cells, and it can help in an RAI ablation again the remaining cells soak up the radioactive iodine and get destroyed by it.
