Guest guest
Hi Laurie, I'm hoping this will be a useful tool for you. It has been for us. We've been doing it with Macie for about a month now (from the new keto center). Her urine ketones showed high all the time, and we found out with her blood ketones that they were far from it. We also use the precision xtra. I don't have the exact correlation for urine ketones (that might be impossible, since urine ketones were not accurate for us)....someone else might. Our center told us that they like blood ketone levels between 4 and 6. The dietitian said each child is different. Some need the high fives and six even, some do OK in the 4's. We were told to check right before a meal. If checking after meals, wait at least 2 hours. I'd definitely check close to seizures so you can get a good feel for what is going on during those times. Check during good times, too. BEST OF LUCK!!! Glenna -- In ketogenic , " peteymedic1 " <peteymedic@h...> wrote: > Hello all. Guest guest
I dont know them all, but I know that 4 (blood reading) is 160 (or 16) on the urine sticks. And 0.1 on the blood machine is trace on the urine sticks. Not much help sorry - I test Mike on both, but frankly, the numbers dont always correspond. Like for example, I am doing the atkins diet, and urine can be 160 but blood ketones are only 0.2 (I have my theories but I dont think they relate to the kids so I wont bother to go there) Jenn Blood Ketone values for the Precision xtra monitor Hello all. Does anyone know the correlation of the values for urine ketones 5-160 and blood ketones? We are using the monitor and would like to know what the blood ketone levels should be. Guest guest
We were told we could not correlate urine and blood--But this can be done, somewhat, by checking both at the same time for awhile Ketone Levels:--(urine=80++-160++) --blood=3.84-5.76 Glucose:--50-75-acceptable 55-65-optimal I found the blood ketone and glucose checks helped with fine-tuning--ESPECIALLY glucose Sandi

Guest guest
To lower her glucose, I made her the meal-minus the carbs (fruits, veggies) I did this for days until glucose levels dropped--50-75 Then, slowly added 1/2 carbs Found her to be sensitive to fruits, so even now she gets limited fruits If she wants the fruit I use 1/2 the amount that the meal planner calculates PLUS--I use cream at every meal-instead of oils --this was suggested by ?Stanford?-to help with seizures The study said dairy fat at every meal-had greater success for seizure-free days She is one of those kids-tolerates carbs as grains--but not fruit--think the increase in glucose happens too quick for her with the fruit Some days she gets No fruits and No veggies We are trying some Atkins products --but keeping the Keto ratio--and seizures are not any worse And she is happier!! How is your daughter? I think you were SLOWLY weaning her I hope things are still going well for the two of you Take-care Sandi
Guest guest
Sandi, What changes did you make to the diet based on the glucose readings?
