Dear Angie,

Yes, you can make chicken broth in a crockpot. Works very well.

I like to roast my chicken pieces until brown, then put them in the

pot with an onion, a carrot, and celery stalk, chopped. Cover with

water and cook for 4 to 6 hours. Strain, remove the fat. Also, I

sometimes just save the bones and skin from a roasted chicken and

use that for broth instead of chicken pieces. Works great, you just

don't get as much broth. Of course, salt and pepper to taste.

" Is it Elaine's Homemade Chicken Soup recipe?) (It's probably

because it's so basic "

That's it. It's super easy. Nothing tricky about it at all.

Yes, (edition 10) for broth just strain and don't put the carrots back in.

Hi Angie,

After baking chicken I save the bones in the freezer in a freezer

bag. When the bag is full I'll roast the bones at about 325°F for

20 minutes or so and then fill the roasting pan with water (I

usually thow in boiling water to speed it up a bit). I generally

leave it about 3-5 hours and then strain out the bones. Refrigerate

and lift off the fat when hardened. Then I freeze it in 2 cups

servings in freezer bags. I usually make about 14-16 cups (7-8

freezer bags at a time).

I have also made it in the crockpot. Pretty much following the same

directions but I add boiling water and let in cook in the crockpot

for 10 hours (usually overnight).

I like the oven method because I can make it in much larger

quantities. But both work equally well.
